After six months of ligament injections at a doctor in mexico Tanner Hall has finally completed his rode to recovery today and is now going to start slaying again, even though he has been skiing before today this marks the official date that he is back. look at next year T is back on the comp scene.

I won't say that Tanner won't catch up but it will be hard for him. The sport of halfpipe skiing was not as refined when he had his first comeback as it is today so the catch up was easier. Also, don't forget he wasn't dominating anymore when he got hurt; Bertoni kicked his ass at X Games the season of his injury.

Two things for sure:

1. He wont win x next year.
2. If he realizes he isn't going to be able to get back on top, he will just claim he decided to ride pow because he "has more fun doing that". Tanner is good at quitting while he is on top and convincing people it's not just because he realizes that he isn't the best anymore.

you seem to know quite a bit about him, you been reading his diary or some shit? lol and when has he ever "quit while he was ahead" of his own accord just like that? ive been seeing him post up vids on facebook of him trying dubs in the backcountry and shit so it looks like hes getting back into it relatively quickly

I do remember.

Also, Tanner sucks mega cock at pipe by today's standards, and I'm still amazed he ever won X back in his day. I could see his runs getting him 3rd or 4th, but his style is just so whack. He is so far behind right now I highly doubt that he will ever even podium at a major comp again, but it definitely is possible.

And for all those saying his style of runs can't keep up with today's competitors have you noticed torin yater wallace tearing it up? And all the pros and announcers say he reminds them of a young thall. So thats an indicator. he still has some juice left in him for sure!

1. Yes, i have been reading his diary, you got a fucking problem with that?

2. Big air, claimed he just wanted to do slope. Then slope, claimed he just wanted to do pipe. Quit both right as he was being passed by new people. I'm just saying, if he doesn't think he can get first anymore then he will quit. Also, you could maybe put rail jams in there though they aren't as big of events so maybe he just legitimately didn't care.

As sick as tanner is and even though he might be able to come back into the comp scene, he won't. Im pretty sure he "retired" from comps long ago and i am almost certain he will be shredding pow for the rest of his days.

tru, i see what youre saying, but i really dont think that was the actual reason why he gave up those disciplines. he'd been competing in that shit for quite a while now so its normal for him to want a little change in scenery i guess. and i know if i was pro i'd wanna ski as much pow as possible, that shit is unreal

I agree that Tanner has the tenacity to make a come back, but, coming from someone who has had multiple knee injuries/surgeries, he may not be physically able to do it (but, my skill <<<< tanner skill, so...). This type of injury isn't just cured after rehab and treatment, it's life long. He will probably have to go back sometime in the future for continuing therapy.

I'm stoked he has made it this far though!

In my mind, this is somewhat of a moot point. I mean lets face it, Tanner has probably won more competitions than most skiers will even place in. Tanner has done the competition circuit to death.

I honestly don't even want him to come back to the contest scene. He claimed his quitting... well fucking GOOD! Leave the crazy hucking to someone else, and please for gods fucking sake get out there and do some awesome, stylish innovative shit that I can sit back and enjoy in a ski video.

Why do we ask skiers with so much focus on hating FIS and talking about "FREE"skiing put such emphasis on Contests? Are we totally unable to shake our history of racing and classic freestyle?

Tanner if you read this, please for the love of god... leave the contests be and just get out there and be the super fucking awesome skier that you are. Do some weird stylish shit just for me.

I for one am tired of watching contests.

I agree that contests are definitely wack, and kind of push people to hurt themselves......BUT.... some people like competing.  Always have, always will.  I also hope that Tanner just goes and makes an awesome fucking movie and keeps it real, retiring with grace.

What about contests like Cold Rush and Line Catcher?

I agree, creativity using natural terrain is much more interesting to watch than creativity on man-made features, but watching the limits of natural terrain get pushed at cold rush was pretty spectacular. 80 foot backflips? hell yeah!

You are correct... I will admit that contests like that are rad. Hell even shit like superpark or the old Rage shoots are rad.

I mean I should even admit that contests are rad in their own right. There's nothing wrong with contest skiing, and with watching top level park skill.

I guess I just feel like Tanner could do all kinds of other creative stuff... whether in the park, BC or the streets. Just seems like a waste for him to come back and try to climb the ranks back to the top of Slope or Pipe.

I agree completely. Tanner has done so much with his skiing career and has had more influence on the skiing industry than anyone else out there. So yeah, it would be awesome to see him come back after everything he has been through and just dominate in competitions, but i would much rather see him continue making movies and ripping it out in the backcountry, being stylish and doing what he loves most. He impresses me more than any other skier out there. LOve you Tanner! Congrads on your recovery!

I think tanner likes that challenge, he is someone who likes challenges himself and that is why he is my favorite pro skier, he doesnt have to compete again but i think he likes having a challenge and setting out and owning that challenge.

also tanner said he plans on competing in events like cold rush and line catcher. he said in an inspired radio show that if he feels ready he would compete in cold rush this year.

Tanner has nothing left to prove in the competition scene. He has been the best competition skier in virtually every single discipline. I'm sure he could work at it and climb back up the competition ranks, but I'd be more than happy to watch him throw down outside the comp scene these days.

i dont know if any of you guys remember but at this years xgames he said that he was going to be competing in next years pipe and that was a promise thats what he said so I think he is going to come back and do comps  no matter what.

I'm pretty sure that T-Hall has already relearned this run, and can throw it down anytime.
Only thing missing in there from todays standard is a double cork.
And at last years X-games nobody could do them but Rolland, and now almost anybody at dew tour and X can throw them, so I'm sure he's gonna be fine for next season.

In pipe, probably not but in the big mtn/pow scene, he will be striving yet again. Hes already got double corks down on BC booters. Thats like a small addition to his trick armory. Tanner will be back on top in the big mtn/pow scene. I'm sure of it.

In Like a Lion Tanner had hinted at a possible run for Olympic pipe in 2014. I think if pipe makes it into the 2014 games Tanner will try his hardest to compete in it probably retiring from pipe comps after that. He'll be 30 by then.

I personally believe that Tanner should come back to compete, you never know what has been going through his mind. I mean, the level of competition these days is SO regulated, and I think that comes naturally. Style is a very hard thing to judge, because its style. I think that there is going to be a turn in how this shit is judged this year if Tanner comes back.
