Boot Fitting Question for ONENERDYKID

I was going to PM you but I feel like this may be a question that other people are wondering.

I have read several posts about boot fitting and seem to know your opinion on Surefoot. Coming from someone who isn't an expert on boot fitting I would take Surefoot as being a very reputable company because of their marketing etc.

I live in Summit County, Colorado so obviously there are a ton of boot fitters. My question is, how do I know I have found a GOOD boot fitter for new boots or adjustments to my current ones? Are there characteristics that I should be looking for? Should I shop around for "the right boot fitter for me" the same way I would shop for the right ski boot?

I feel like a lot of skiers put trust in any boot fitter to make the correct adjustments without really knowing whether they're qualified or not.

i think the best way to find a reputable boot fitter is to ask around. getting positive testimonials from other people is always a good thing.

never ask "what shop?" but rather "who?". just because the shop has a great fitter on staff does not mean all of their fitters are good. always get a name and if you can, book an appointment with that individual.

I was at an REI, this one actually http://www.rei.com/stores/18 and the guy in there was really good. thing is I don't remember his name, but he had glasses, short hair, skied on prophets of some sort. I got the feeling that he really had a great idea of how to help people.

Internet people are way too anal about trying to find a godlike bootfitter. The truth is, unless you have incredibly weird feet (and even if you do) then pretty much any bootfitter who has been working in an independent shop in a ski town for 2 or more winters is going to do a good job.

This is a really good start. Every shop has their "Elvis", the King of Boot-Fitting, their go-to-guy. Ask your friends, ask lifties, ask patrolers, ask coaches... ask the people who live in their boots- they will tell you a few names to go see. Once you get a few, call the shops and talk to these people and see what they are like. Some guys are pretty chill, some can be mad-scientist types. I'm sure a few guys can get the job done right, just find out which one YOU want to work with.
