Marker Bindings 2012 question

So... I was talking to a friend today. He has broken five pairs of Jester Shitzos this year. I feel like that is a little unreasonable, seeing as how they are a 16din freeride binding...

Does anyone know if they are going to make a Jester Pro schitzo? or a duke pro?

I've had no problems with normal Jesters. The schitzos are just pieces of rubbish compared to normal marker royal family bindings. It wouldn't even help if they would start making a 18din schitzo since they would still blow up, the schitzo cable system just isn't durable enough. If I remember correctly they are only bringing a pro version of jester nothing else.

the pro is an 18 din binding.

just out of curiosity, how did he break 5 pairs of bindings? what on them broke?

He broke a toe piece off three times (not ripping it out of the ski, the toe piece sheared off of the plate), and twice broke the cable attachments under the toe piece.

For clarification, the Jester Pro has a metal bar that goes from the mounting plate, up through the whole toe piece, across, and down back to the plate.

The Schizo gets way too much undue shit thrown at it. The Schizo toe and heel slide onto plastic rails similar to how the normal Jesters do (cue someone telling me that the normal Jester toe isn't on a rail). I am very hard on my equipment and my Jester Schizos have been fine this year. If you mount them properly, set them up properly and adjust them properly, they're fine.

Its not the shitzo system that is the problem... It is that many of the load bearing parts in the Jester bindings are plastic. I have busted a toe piece off at the tower, my buddy, mentioned above, has done this three times.

As for "mounting and setting them up properly" they are not fine. The load bearing parts are still very small. If you do the math, some of the upper release values are way to close the the shearing stresses of the components. That is why they break.

are FKSs a better choice then? what if your boot size changes? do you then need to remount because of the heel mount design?

No, FKS suck too, because if I wanted to swap them between my skis like I am doing now (with inserts) I would have to mail them to Rossignol, wait three months, and pay out the ass.

Rossignol FKS bindings need user replaceable brakes. Marker bindings need more reliable forward pressure, and more metal. Salomon bindings... eh, there ok.

And Head/Tyrolia bindings need brakes that are not connected to the mount screws.

And then everything in the binding world would make sense.

in general is the FKS a good binding? My retention is set at 8.5 by the chart although i could probably ski them at a 9 or 9.5 without a problem. I know the FKS range is 8 to 18. Would that be a problem?

I am confused, they are user replaceable.  You just need to pick up a set of brakes and use the method in the sticky to pop them apart, replace the brake and pop them back together.  I have done it on 3 sets myself and it takes all of 15 minutes.  Or are you saying you haven't been able to find the brake itself to purchase?  I guess that would make slightly better sense.

Yeah, that is what I mean, they do not sell the brakes. I want to be able to swap the bindings, and I can't swap FKS bindings between all of my skis... so...

^^^ to answer B.Taillefer's question. I have Mojo 15s and Mojo 18s that I swap between all of my skis. They are the best bindings that fit my needs in my opinion. They are pretty sweet bidnings. I just wish that the brakes were not held in place by the mounting screws (not such a big deal, since I use then with inserts)

Fair enough.  One option is to always cruise garage sales and pick up old sets and harvest the brakes off of those and bend those out to create multiple sets.  Didn't realize you were trying to swap bindings from ski to ski using a quiver killer type solution by the sounds of it.  Even though I don't like them as much what about the STH Steel or the S920?

I like the Salomon bindings too, and I looked at the S916, but it was like 450 bucks, and my Mojo 18s were 90 brand new with a warranty. So I went with the lighter, cheaper, just as bomber one.

Also, the winglingdings constantly need to be checked. And I don't quite like the heel piece as much.

So true. I love the mojo 15/18 some of the most bomber bindings that are easily had for 125 and below.
