I have a 13 year old brother that's getting into park and freestyle. since i was in college for most of his early park days, i didnt get to ride with him too much until this year. a hugely overshot cab 9 to torn ACL/meniscus has me out for the season, and i'm going straight back to grad school this fall so it's pretty much curtains for me and park skiing with the kid. still, i feel i have a responsibility: to make sure this kid doesn't think that dub 12 mute or k-fed to afterbang on a flat box is the end-all-be-all of park skiing.
today the mountain was closed but the youngin still wanted to talk skiing so we sat down and watched a shitload of old movies, segments on youtube, edits, etc. obviously, there's a massive amount of stuff to watch. so i pose a question to some of the OG steezers of NS:
if you are trying to educate a young kid on what's really dope in freestyle skiing, what movies and segs do you show them? i'm talking about the shit that, when it came out or you saw it for the first time, it changed the way you looked at skiing. think of it like a time capsule: which segs define the progress of freestyle skiing in the past 15 years?
this kid likes park, so i was admittedly a bit park-centric, but i think i made the biggest impressions with, in no particular order, CR in SM3, pep in 1242, mik d in stereotype, tanner in wski, vanular in shanghai six, rainville in wicked, all of the candide vids i could find, and the entire movie IDEA.
