Anyone on here know much about standup paddle boarding?

I'd like to get one soon but im not about to drop $1000 on a setup just quite yet. Anyone on here have any advice on buying these things? Online stores that are good that ship to Canada...anything advice really because Im new to this and not sure where to go with a first setup.

i know where i windsurf, i sometimes see people doin it even though there arent any waves. i know bic makes a sick deck thats good for standup but it has a mast track for windsurfing too. i'd go for that. Bic makes sick windsurfing decks. i love the one i use. plus, that deck is pretty long so you can expect to have some fun doing whatever on it.

just do windsurfing. its possibly greater than skiing/boarding. dont let the price tag scare you because you gotta keep in mind that its not like skiin where you have to pay every time you go, you buy your setup and it can pretty much last a lifetime. theres guys up at the lake where i go and they have stuff from back in the 80's

I've done it a few times. I would suggest finding a surf shop that will let you demo before you drop a grand on a set up. It's definitely not as easy as it looks, and honestly I like surfing my longboard way better. There isn't really a cheap way into it unless you buy a used set up.

yeah there isn't much here for windsurfing and im going to be running rivers so the SUP seemed to be best suited. Still not sure on a setup though

iv done it in the ocean a couple times in north carolina its extremely fun, iv looked around and ebay always had some decent deals on some.

ive actually been selling them for about 4 years. id say im pretty knowledgable regarding SUPs. if you want cheap, go with an NSP. made especially for beginners, but still surf well. you have to have a few things in mind when looking, like if just youre gonna be using it, or whether youre gonna be in flatwater, surf, or both. but width is the key, not length. dont go anything less than 29 inches wide. period. too unstable and not worth the frustration. its better to go with a cut to length paddle if its just for you. carbon is the lightest and strongest, but also the most expensive. if you want cheap the paddle will be aluminum, and heavier. check into global surf industries, they sell an 89 dollar paddle. if uyou have more specific questions PM me, i can give you a lot more help.

I bought an old longboard surfboard off craigslist for $60, it looks badass and it's really stable, and if you ever go into waves, they are really fun with the paddle and all.

Yup like said above i just used my windsurf board for it. Would be a lot nicer to have a real light long one though.

ive been wanting to try this for a few years now. difference between surfing on a regular board vs paddle board?????

A paddle board surfing is more flowy I guess you could say while on a regular surfboard you can make quicker more agile turns. And you can kind of steer with the paddle on the paddle board as well. Both are fun, but I actually prefer paddle surfing vs. Regualr on large waves

ive only tried regular and i just cant get enought of it. its too much fun.

next time ill have to see what i can do about demoing a paddle board

I'm not really a fan of standup paddle boarding, I did it once in PR over the summer and it's just soo slow. Do you really want To drop 1000$ on it?
