Learning how to control your nerves!!?

I've been having real trouble lately trying to learn some new tricks. When I'm standing on the top of the run and looking at the jump, the nerves just get the better of me. I always get so fucking nervous, especially if the jump is a bit on the larger size. I usually practice all my tricks in the backcountry and in the pow first, but I still don't feel that confidence boost when I take it to the park. I'm so afraid of falling hard and getting hurt (I know it sounds silly, no pain no game, right?), but it's just that I wish I could relax more when I'm trying to learn new things, you know? Would be nice if someone shared some tips or ideas on how they might handle a situation like this. Would be much appreciated.

just think about you going down and stomping the trick your thinking about. (oh and afterbanging  too)  dont think about falling.

I don't tell anyone I'm gonna do something so I don't look like a pussy if I don't, but I usually just drop in as fast as possible so I don't have anytime to think about it and get nervous. Usually works pretty well if I have the trick figured out.

How do you get over previous episodes? Like if you tried a trick and bailed really hard. It's kinda horrible having to go back and try the exact same trick once again without thinking about the consequence, and what happend the last time?

Think about the trick on the chair ride up before you try it, visualize it so you know exactly how your going to throw it. Then just drop as quickly as possible, don't think about the trick, just throw as the way that feels right. If you fall then chances are you'll just be like "that does not hurt that much." Then you can work on refining the trick.

The more you try new tricks the less you'll end up scaring yourself.

i always drop, then think, and i do the trick, dont over think it before dropping, the most useful information/thinking will come to u when crusing down the inrun

just concentrate on the trick and breath and just go for it without beeing able to think about all the bad things that could happen ;)

Worst thing to do is look at the jump or rail and keep thinking about it. Just drop in and go for it, snake everyone who gives a fuck. If you think about it you will think about worse thing that could happen and then it will happen.

think about any and everything except what you are about to do. seriously, clear your mind and distract the shit out of yourself and i guarantee you will make some progress.

Music helps me a lot. And like someone said, don't go up to your friends and be like, "Im gonna try this trick!", just try it. I find I learn new things by doing a trick slightly easier then it over and over on the same feature until I know I will stomp it every time, then without giving yourself much warning, just add that little bit more rotation or whatever you want to do. Works for me.

When I'm standing at the top overlooking the jump, I usually look directly at it and visualize how I'm going to hrow down. Maybe it's not such a good idea? The bad thoughts usually come when I'm trying to visualize, so. But if I just use a "fuck it, and go" kinda attitude, it will work better, or?

I love nerves, it is what is keeping me going. When I fall I just go up and try again, because nerves turn in to adrenaline. Try to love the feeling and just go for it.

i literally yell fuck the butterflies as i drop and as i go into the jump i think of my movements in the air and about me stomping it. but once you try the trick once usually the butterflies r completely gone and your confident about your next try. ( i usually never get a trick first try but almost no one does)

try and visualize every single second of your trick before you throw it. especially riding away. then just go for it.

instead of thinking about how bad it's gonna hurt if you fall, think about how good its gonna feel when you stomp.

standing atop a cornice drop in gets me everytime, i clear my head and smile thinking about how hard im bout to slay it, then point your skis and send it. any negative thought could be your last.

visualize urself stomping it. go through all the motions before dropping. that works for me.

-Do the trick on a jump you have jumped alot on.
-Drink a redbull or something else, listen to your favorite music. (i dont listen to music in very hard, technical tricks, because i need to focus)
-Visualize it ONE time, and then drop in. (if u visualize it to much and think on it to much you get to scared and it's more likely you will fail)
- Do some jelling, jumping on the way crusing into the jump and it helps having someone to film you. Then you get more stoked and less scared, (it's true) and then you can watch the movie, and then see what you did wrong, and then try again doing the same thing.

I have been doing this every time i have tried big, new tricks on jumps, and it helps EVERY time for me.

On rails it helps to visualize ALOT, and then drop in, doing the same. I don't find rails as scary as jumps, so it's not such a bid deal for me as jumps is.
