like some people have said before I think we all have to remember that this is competition skiing and the purpose is to win, not a progression of interpretive and inovative tricks, this is what sessions and park skiing is for.
Although the scoring in pipe (and big air) may not be to everyones liking and probably not the most ideal, I think it is the best system to avoid a greater amount of unfairness amoungst riders. If you had of done 3 dubs in a run and another rider only did 2, and you came 2nd because your 'style' wasn't as good, it would be an injustice, for the simple fact that 'style' is subjective to each individual (judge) and specific tricks (dubs ect) are more suited to a definitive point structure. Sparknote: Types and complexity of tricks are easier and more consistant to score without a 'style' or 'inovative' element thrown in. The only time I think style should come into it is if 2 riders have an equally scoring run.
how much harder a boxing match would be to score if you had to take in to account style and technique aswell as hits landed and uniqueness of punches thrown?
