Sixtuple Meltdown??

It certainly looks like it will happen. Right now they're trying to slow fission with water, which is futile. All 6 will partially or fully meltdown because once the first goes, there will be far too much radiation to fix the others. Fuck me.

So what happens if they all melt down? Abandon northern Japan for 100 years? This would destroy the countries entire economy. I'm pretty sure there is a ton of agriculture in northern japan, Prepare for an increase in food prices.It is not a small country....  Shits going to be out of control .

Great idea although the cores are not so easily accessible. Bottom line, time is running the fuck out as it keeps getting hotter and more radioactive. But a radical, unconventional, feasible idea would be the only godsend.

A top MIT prof already mentioned that when they were pumping seawater into the reactors, it indicated a desperate attempt to fix something very, very wrong.

uhg , 3rd largest economy in the world is about to shut down if this goes worst case. there has to be some sort of last ditch effort of some sort. Chain that shit up to a ship and pull it into the ocean or something ,drop  buckets of concrete on it dump millions o tons of lead ore on it.  fuck i don't know, im scared though..

Yup - because essentially the moment you use uninhibited seawater to cool a nuclear reactor, you simply fuck it up, it'll never be used again.... so to take a decision to effectively destroy a billion dollar plant must be last ditch..... the concrete containment vessels surround these cores are now essentially what's containing the madness - inside that, who knows what shit is going down....

Unfortunately, I think it's out of there control already. Like someone above said, pissing on a volcano. 3 and 4 are in bad shape, and the fallout from those would make contending with the other four a suicide mission. Its going to be a situation for a while now. I hope I am wrong. +++VIBES

Cooling something that is super hot very quickly is a terrible idea, + it will weaken everything else it touches that isnt warm or hot allready and make it much more brittle. I dont think it would do anything but harm.I dont think it would cool anything at all when it comes to the reactor.

found this in another thread, i know i know wall of text but its a decent read don't know the credability just figured id post it


From what i gathered things dont sound as bad as the media makes it, the reactors that reach a significant meltdown may be fucked for a while but it sounds like radiation will be well contained with the constant release of pressure and cooling by sea water and even if there is a core meltdown theres a third containment that would prevent complete nuclear radiation spread

i know its not a good situation but i think the media is overhyping this part of it and that most of our energy should be supporting the natural disaster victims while the experts do their best with this

This is one of the most challenging times in this planet's history. We are going to be pushed to our limits. Humans are amazing creatures capable of amazing things. It will be interesting to see how we respond to this.

However, I always take comfort in the thought that civilization is not needed for existence. If the world "ended" that would mean that the POLITICAL and civilized worlds would collapse. Not the entire world (unless the entire world literally lit on fire and exploded somehow haha). People have/do live using nothing but the natural world and their intelligence. We can too.

Yeah. Technically, radiation will be detectable anywhere in the world for a while after. But the chances that those radiation levels will pose health risks are low (other than Japan obviously).

People should for sure be concerned about Japan because of this whole situation, but to say that it will shut the country down is quite dramatic. The big-time media loves to feed off of disasters as you all know and they also love to go deep into the worst case scenario.

Like I said, listen to NPR if you guys want a good idea of what's going on. You will get the opinion of a whole panel of experts. Sometimes their opinions differ, so you are free to make your own conclusions from the great amount of info you are given.

just so you know t there is no reaction going on. as soon as the earthquake hit the reactors were shut down, therefor stopping all the reactions.

the big problem they are having is keeping the reactor cool because there is still some heat being produced, but nothing similar to if the reactor was still running

same thing with the spent fuel rod pools, the fuel rods themselves are not reacting but they are still producing heat and they are evaporating the water in the pools. in order to keep the pools full they are dropping water on them because they cant pump water up to them.

its still a bad situation, the chances of radiation spreading is still very high but it is not a runaway reaction in the plant.
