what's the deal with that effect when youre watching an hdtv and everything looks sped up and jittery and way too real.. does it have to do with a 24 to 30 fps pulldown? hopefully someone understands the look i'm talking about
I know what you're talking about. It almost looks fake, not so much real. I don't know why, but our Vizio doesn't do it but my friend's Samsungs have a bad case of it. It bugs me to watch movies on it. I wish I could help you out. Have you fiddled with the display settings?
luckily i havent had this issue on my own TVs haha, drives me up a wall.. yeah i do bet you can improve it with the tv's settings but it also looks sped up you know?
Just as I figured, it most-likely has something to do with a 60Hz signal being transmitted and the TV set for a 120Hz signal. What happens is that the TV has to fill in all the gaps, creating those ultra fine lines, making the picture look too real or more like a cartoon. Samsungs seem to be the TVs that have this problem. Solution: turn off "Auto Motion Plus."
it has to do with the refresh rate. Higher rates such as 120 and 240 will be much more pronounced. Any good TV has the ability to set the rate lower to combat this, or automatically produce the picture as being 'normal'. It is commonly called the soap opera effect.
i work at best buy on some tvs have the refresh rate too make it look like that because alot of people like it for watching sporting events or video games but movies dont look as good. too be honest i dont like it either
The soap opera effect? If you could explain to me why all soap operas look the way they do I would be grateful. I've always wondered since I was a kid.
To my knowledge most soaps are still shot on 35mm film in 24fps. They say for the amount of taping they do, it is more economical to use film over digital.
That doesn't even make sense, film is WAY more expensive how would it be more economical to use film instead of digital? I just looked up shit real quick and it sounds like they shoot on video tapes, which is "film" but i dont see why a daily tv show would shoot on 35mm film...
