Armada Pipe Cleaner - Rails or no rails?

Orite guys,

Looking at buying a set of Pipe cleaners, but wondering about their durability for stuff like rails etc...

Or would the AR7's hold up better?

i have them, they are fine. i wax mine like 1 time a moth and they have been holding up since 2009

they are actually very good for rails since the race base is even more durable than the ar7's base as long as you keep them waxed.

Well idk if I would say that. Isn't the Ar7 base built for rail damage while the pipecleaner base is built for speed?

Pipe cleaner is built well, just keep it waxed for sure, just like any other ski with a race base

race base is stronger than the ar7's S7 base but keep in mind your edges will become dull and not nearly as effective in the pipe...

but if you are riding them more as a slopestyle/park ski, then by all means jib them

S7 Base - Improved for 10/11, the new S7 features a gliding additive for increased speed and longevity. Our toughest base, find the S7 on any ski that’s looking for rails, ledges, and boxes as much as snow.


50 50 Base - As the name implies, the 50/50 is faster than the S7 and more rugged than the Comp Series.


AKA the COMP BASE is NOT meant for RAILS. It is meant for SPEED, has a soft base, and will get fucked on rails.

if you get pipe cleaners, they will be fine. just take care of them and do the monthly or however many times you wax. mine have lasted since 2009

I'm sure they would be fine on rails if you kept up with the waxing etc... Armada makes nothing but superior products IMO. Just clarifying that the base is the softest among their skis and not meant for rails... Hence the name Pipe Cleaner.

wrong. the comp base is harder than the others. the main difference being that the comp base (graphite based race surface) is much more difficult to repair. if you fuck up the other bases, ptexing should fix the problem. however, with the comp base ptex doesn't hold very well. it will just end up cracking and coming out.

the s7 is the toughest assuming you will neglect your pipe cleaners and not wax the comp series base...

if you wax it, then yes - like any other world cup inspired race base - the base material is actually more durable than the s7

mine were raped in 2 weeks from minimal rail use - this years did an awful job holding up

They don't mention 'softness' at any point, they talk about durabilty and 'toughness', they don't always mean the same thing.

I had a pair of pipecleaners for a season, sure the edges cracked, but then all edges crack if you hit enough rails. They held up just as well as any ski I have owned, and better than some.

No they are not designed for rails, but they do fine, and are a great ski.

Yeah no company will even talk to you most of the time if you hit rails and mess up your skis.

That looks pretty damn minor to me, the edge hasn't even pulled out or anything.

Armada was always pretty chill when I had a warranty with them. Maybe you were a dick? I completely destroyed my JJ by landing on a rock and they sold me a pair for less than 1/2 price even though it was clearly my fault. Pretty damn good customer service if you ask me.

Only 3 days on them and total up to 15 basic grinds cause I was skiing with friends that dont like park! IfI was charging hard for a week nonstop in the park yes i understand that but I am 32 and cant stay at the park whole day! And I was a dick after listening for five minutes how I cant ski in the park ! Had couple sets of skis for the last years never had a crack in the edge but worn out edges! Disapointing cause Armada has impact edge read the description! Faulse advertisement and over heated edges so no flex into the steel!

I've had my 2008 PC till now... They are fine, everyone is being over dramatic... i only waxed them like 2 times a year (40 days)

It's worth getting PC over ar7 and TH cause the are a shit ton faster, have great flex, I bought last years thalls and they were alow as fuq, the PC's stayed fast w/o much work, and they rnt floppy noodles like TH.

Just my opinion.
