S7 vs super 7 188

Failed on the thread title, meant to be "super 7 vs S7 188", cheers

they won't be quite as good of a deal but if you wait til next fall, you can get the super 7's in a 188cm size. that would solve all of your problems.

they ski incredibly short so don't worry about them being too long

Well there is always the new 188 Super 7.....

However it is not the same ski as the 195 Super 7. The 195 is quite a bit stiffer. If you liked the flex on the 195 you might be disappointed in both of the 188s. The 188 Super 7 does have a layer of metal and has more rebound but is still quite a different ski. If you're looking for a deal though it may be out of the question (as it is brand new). The regular S7 is such a ho-hum ski. It's great if you're skiing low angle pow or cruising through the trees but it's not enough ski to really handle charging stuff all that well. I'm sure people will disagree with me, but this is my own opinion. I thought they were awful in the crud, they got thrown around waaaay too easily and I thought they turned too short on groomers. However, I prefer a stiffer ski and I like something with a longer turning radius.

The 186 Billy Goat is longer and skis longer than the 188 S7, is stiffer and will charge way harder, is without question better in the crud and still kills it in the pow. I will concede that in tight spaces especially with little fresh snow the S7 does turn faster. In every other condition (including groomers) the Billy Goat is a far superior ski. I am biased, but that doesn't mean I'm not correct. Oh, and the Billy Goats are on sale now. Definitely something to consider when thinking about S7s or Super 7s.

Good replies guys, thanks, feel better about going with the 195s now. When I skied them at baker they didn't feel too long, charged really well through the chop, turned surprisingly easy, and destroyed the heavy baker pow, so I definitely liked them I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out if the 188 regular S7s would be a better fit for me. Thanks again!

I just don't think you will be seeing many pop up for that good of a deal. Demand is really high for them. Better odds then a JJ though.

I own S7s, and they are definitely a fairly soft ski. Quite soft in the tip and tail, but decently stiff underfoot. Personally, I love the way the ski on groomers, whereas I absolutely hated the Billy Goats when I tried them. In softer snow, both have a super fun, turny, playful feel. I would say go for the Super S7s, or maybe drop some cash to demo the regular S7s before you decide. Definitely check out the Billygoat though. Too bad you didnt try them a little while ago when they had demos up at Baker

s7's are better than bg's on groomers, bg's are better than s7's in everything else

Hey guys, so I found brand new 195 super 7s for $550 with free shipping, should I jump on that or would you think I'm better off waiting till the end of the season or summer for a better price?

I would jump on it, sounds like a price you won't find until next spring.

That's a pretty solid price. There is a used pair on TGR for $350 that have been drilled twice, so I think it is pretty safe to say $550 new is a good deal.

That is a good deal as most S7's have been out of stock for awhile now & same w/the 2012 Super 7's.

If you are near Portland, you should try some of the Billy Goat's.
