Yesterday at Breck some park skiers that were on the lift were giving me shit for skiing with out poles. I personally feel that I ski better with out poles so Im gonna keep it that way. Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I feel like being a judgmental douche bag while your skiing reflects upon who you are in real life, which would be a douche bag. Honestly who cares if Im skiing with out poles, as long as your skiing then I don't see a problem./ end rant.

I think it's a little awkward and looks weird to ski without poles (I've done it a few times and didn't like it) but I definitely wouldn't hate on anyone for it.

My argument for poles is that it just looks weird to have such huge skis on your feet and then not balance it out with poles in your hands--it's more aesthetically pleasing to see someone ski with poles than without imo. It's also nice to have that extra pushing ability and balance when in pow too.

I somewhat prefer park without poles as long as you arms are calm, but for me thats usually not the case so i grab some poles. I also like poles in the woods and on steep terrain, i feel pretty stupid without them.

No poles sucks in lift lines.

I think everyone does the nopoles thing for a while. You can learn a lot without them, then you add them back in and they really help you get even better. I skied without poles for about a month...learned a whole bunch of tricks, then grabbed my poles again...not a big deal.

Sprained my wrist a bit more than a week ago so i had to ski without poles for a few days, then the first day i brought them back to the hill they got stolen when i was in for breakfast. It's kind of a bummer because it has been powder for the whole time and there is alot of traversing at Whistler but i have also been getting hate everyday from all sorts of people, it is super fucking lame.

Skiing would be pretty boring if everyone did the exact same stuff. I don't get it. Everyone complains about robot mute dubs, but then when they see someone doing something different, they hate on that too. What do you people want!?!?

I love a good poles v. no poles debate. It reminds me of NS when I first joined.

I always find the argument of "It just doesn't look right" to be funny... by stating that argument one would also be implying that fashion in skiing is a good reason to do things.

In the terrain park especially you can argue the function of poles. Classic aerials ditched using poles for a reason... when you're just jumping its pointless.

So without a function argument, we are left only with a fashion argument... and thusly on that logic if your cloths aren't dope then you suck too.

People that cant ski without poles must suck. Their is literally no differens in balance. Poles dont keep your arms calm, keeping your arms calm keeps your arms calm.

sorry i won't assume... if you're going to ski around the park looking like a lost child, look uphill before getting onto features from the fucking side. just because you're downhill, that doesn't give you complete right of way to do whatever the hell you want in the park. if you don't understand the basic flow of the park, no matter how stupid you want to look skiing, stay out.

Agreed, Even the name of our sport implies we are free to have our own style, so TRY to ignore others opinions.

My son recently posted a quick video of his 1040 he landed out at Hyland MN. Instead of noticing what he had accomplised, alot of the comments remarked to "Use your poles"! etc.

Imo skiing without poles looks silly. and while I won't say anything degrading or mean to no polers I will make sure they and everyone else on the slope knows there's a no poler on the mountain.  Usually by shouting "NO POLER!"

so you say there is a flow in the park that should not be disruped, sounds alot like a turn right turn left racing attitude to me. there is a reason its called freestyle skiing, its because you can do it however you like. and granted we should respect each other and try not to get in other peoples way but its the nature of trying new and different things to be in the way of the regular fow so naturally in freestyle skiing people will get in other peoples way so deal with it because after all its just skiing and skiing is fun.
