It's crippled Japan so badly It's unreal.

Saw something on the news the other day which showed how quick the Tsunami was moving like a few Km inland.. It was ridiculous how quickly it was swallowing up the land.

it sounds weird but Japan was the best place that could have happened as far as earthquake friendly structures, but the tsunami is what has caused the most damage.

you're absolutely right. at least japan is a developed country with a stable government, and first-world infrastructure so it is able to cope with the damage pretty effectively. not saying its good that Japan got hit, but if it was further south, like southeast asia, it probably would have been even more devastating than 2004, as those countries have no infrastructure and very poor response mechanisms to disaster
