Im going to China.

For 10 days with my parents. Bringing my camera. Really excited.


We are staying in Beijing for most of the time. Does anybody have ideas as to places we should go, things we should see ect. that are out of the norm?

Never been to Beijing but i have been to Hong kong and macau and little way inland of mainland china a couple of times, don't know if you are planning to head down that far; but if you are then Hong Kong is awesome, take the tram up victoria peak, ride the crazy escalators, just have a look around - the transport system works really well! Have fun!

Stay away from Badaling if you want any sort of more intimate Great Wall of China experience.  So many tourists.  I suggest the Jinshanling to Simitai hike.

All the other tourist stuff is somewhat standard there.  Forbidden City,  Tianamen Square, Summer Palace, some other park that I can't recall the name of.  Drum Tower.  The old parts of the city that have a special name that also currently escape me.  The underground city is cool.  Just walking around can be pretty entertaining.

I went to Beijing six and a half years ago.  I suggest going to the summer palace, Tien an Men square, Temple of heaven, Great Wall.  Since the Olympics have happened since then there are probably some cool spots for that too.  Don't drink the tap water.  When I was there I didn't but somehow got sick and had nasty diarrhea/vomiting.   Bargain like no other.

Got to go to the Silk Market. Best shopping experience ever. Everything is fake but you'll be bargaining a whole lot and if you pull it off you can get things for very cheap! Also the people that sell put on a very good show.
