hey, i just got my schedual and room assignment here at CU and i got fridays off (3 day ski weekends!) but i know that im going to want to take more days off than just those fridays. so my question for you guys is, how fast will i fall behind in my classes if im ditching every so often to go skiing? are there some classes that are easier to miss than others or anything like that? thanks.

Yeah you know it, you just have to go to class at the first couple weeks and figure out what you need to do to get by in the class. This last spring semester i was at the u of u, and I only went to 5 days of each class I had. First day to get the syllabus, day before mid term, mid term, day before final, and the final. You could read out of the book what i missed in class everyday. Thats why college is great you can skip so much, and plus I still got pretty decent grades, a 3.2 But man if you wanted to ski alot you should have gone to the U of U, we are within 25 minutes of 8 ski areas that are better than the ones on I-70 which are farther.

ya i know. i'm kinda glad i did CU though cuz i live in colorado, so i get in state tuition and i got tons of scholarships for CU that i wouldnt get if i went somewhere else. to tell you the truth though, i would rather not be in school at all though. but oh well.

another thing, some professors take attendance. My spanish professor took points off if you missed more than 5 times... you just got to see what teachers are cool, and how you can minipulate your schedule.

ya, i figure ski season doesnt start right when school does, so that gives me time to see what my classes are like and see which ones i can miss and whatnot.

yeah, some teachers take attendance real seriously, and going to class helps you learn a lot better than just reading out of the text. plus youre prob gonna have papers and shit and quizzes in class so you might as well go to class.
dont worry about what i can or cant do, worry about what you cant do to me

Nah most of my classes were two exams, a mid term and a final. And plus in college they list all your due dates on your syllabus so just figure out what days you need to be there. Just manipulate your schedule to your advantage. Like i said i went to maybe 20 classes all winter and spring, skied over 100 days, and still got a 3.2 sooo yaaaaay!

a couple of my classes dont even have teachers. they are called 'moduals' i dont know if you have heard anything about them. but pretty much you teach yourself and then take a quiz every week in the computer lab.

depends what you're studying and what college you're in. if you're doing engineering like i stupidly was, go to class. if you're taking chem or bio, don't miss a lab. it will screw your grade. for chem, bio, and physics at cu they have these clicker things that you use to answer questions in class. some profs use those points in your grade so you kind of have to be there or give yours to a smart, reliable friend who will be. but if you're taking way easy classes like psych or something like that, there's no need to go every day. def not. just read and print out the notes and you'll be so set. i did that for the last few weeks for my kines class and got a 100 on the last test and an a in the class.
also, if you haven't already find kids with condos or houses in the mountains where you can stay. going up for just one day isn't worth it. i love having a condo at copper to stay at every weekend.

oh man, math mods blow. don't do it even if you're 1) even remotely bad at the subject or 2) not capable of self-discipline to make yourself study. other than that, you can usually find people who have already taken the test and see what's on it. there's only like 3 or 4 different tests.

im in leeds business school. and ya, i hear that the mods suck. i asked if i could test out of it cuz ive already completed calculus 2 and they said i couldnt test out. they put me in the finite math class, which seems to be stuff that you typically finish before calculus. so either i will find a way to test out or coast through the class.

read the book, get a buddy in each class to tell you whats due, sometimes teachers will throw random papers and assignments at you and shit. But alot of the classes are lecture based, and the lecture is in the book too. Study really hard for your finals too, your going to havee to give up skiing for those couple of days prior.

If you don't give a shit about your marks, other than passing(the piece of paper at the end is the same...), college is one of the best 'skiing lifestyles' there is. It's up there with 'pro' and 'ski bum' if you do it right. That means classes 12 months a year, a full schedule in the fall, 3 in the winter, and then 2 in the summer. It means making sacrifices like eating ramen instead of steak, and it means that getting laid might have to come in second to skiing once in a while.
That being said, don't plan on getting hurt while in college, because that'll fuck things up in a hurry.
The number of classes you can skip is determined by how smart you are(be honest) and how willing you are to actually READ your shit. If you read, and take good reading notes, you can skip quite a few classes.

Im going to CU as a freshman next fall as a freshman also. Architecture major. I only got history and writing on mondays and wednesdays, im thinking those will be skippable/skiable days, cause i figure in history you can just read the textbook, and i already know how to write, what can they teach me in the hour long class? Any thoughts?

You guys can skip a shitload, i was mech. engineering major and I probably skipped at least 4 or so classes a week, thats at least an entire extra day off. You are so lucky you have Fridays off, everyone parties real hard thursdays and i always ended up missing my 9 and 10 am friday classes. But then again not many kids go to friday morning classes i've realized. Its actually kind of funny. So i was in calc for engineers at 9 am on fridays, and there was probably 1/5 of the class present on fridays whereas on mon or wed there was usually 4/5 to all of them present. You'll be able to skip a shitload as long as your not a complete moron.
as for getting to the mtns and shit most kids i knew had mon/fri off, maybe wednesday so it was easy to find kids to ride with those days.

I skipped my final exam in statics to go skiing. It was 50% of my final mark so I failed. I took it through correspondance that summer. kinda sucked but it was worth it.

dude, fall semester is gona be over before the good skiing even starts. You'll probably end up on academic probation anyway.

in about half of my classes, if I missed more then three days, my grade went down a significant amount. In my art class, if you miss more then three days, your grade drops an entire grade. You really have to go to to class. I managed to schedual all of my class last year on tues. and thurs. Another way you can do it is schedual them all really early in the morning, then head up to the mountain after class.

seriously, in the b school at boulder you can skip a shitload. Take turns with a friend or 2 taking care of the clickers so you don't have to worry about that. All my b school friends would skip when i did and that was definitely pretty often. It really does not hurt your grade unless its a lab or somethings due, in which case you go. That occurs maybe once a week in a class if that.
