How to make a vest?

so i know this may not be gear talk material but im injured and now have nothing to do so im looking to make a vest. Not just a cotton vest but one with jacket ish material. So, what im wondering is if i can get my hands on a 2 or 5K material somewhere like jo-ann's fabric. If not where would i get it?
and has anyone ever done this? any tips?

make a jacket with some sleeves.
take a knife to them sleeves.

i know i can make one from a jacket but i want to make just a vest

I think if you went to jo-ann fabrics and asked them for help it would be better.

yeah im thinking so too... im looking on their website and i dont know what jacket material would even be called, so i guess im looking for anyone that has ever done this now

There are old ladies there that know their shit, just go in and say that your trying to make a vest that is water repellent. Maybe try nylon similar to the jiberish blust buster
