for those of us who are parents, or older brothers ,even just see younger people as punks, losers, not cool. those of us as elders have failed by not bringing up the youth as a community.

Wow..this hit home big time. I put on an act at school that I'm happy and don't give a shit about what people say but at home I'm depressed. Sure I have friends, but it's the kids who talk to me like I'm shit who get me like this.

i dont know.  i have very little patience for people who blame others for their own problems.  think before you speak? try thinking before you act. if your cutting yourself because someone called you a name then you either have severe mental issues or you havent thought it out.  omg more people hate me then like me!!!! they tell me so!!! as the great winston churchill said "you have enemies? good. that means you stood up for something"

What a little cunt. I got my teeth kicked through my fucking face junior year JUST because a kid didn't like me. No other reason, no problems with him before that, he just decided I'd be a good person to take out my anger on. I got shit like this all through highschool, name calling and shit like that, lots of people didn;t like me, shit I had it ten times worse than this fat, flat, slutty little whore did.

Did I cut myself and make a stupid video about it? No. And I'm fine. If this girl kills herself, it won't be much of a loss. Actually, from the way she deals with her problems, I'd actually encourage her to off herself JUST so we'd have one less idiot on the earth.

you know this is all a lot easier said then done. it takes a tremendous sense of self awareness to reach a point where you understand how you put those thoughts into your head. and it is a lot of other people to blame. if a child was told he was worthless his entire life by his parents, he would believe it and people would call that bad parenting, so how is high school bullying any different? dealing with a situation like this is a lot of a bigger issue than you can ever imagine and i think your lack of knowledge and experience is enough to wager that your opinion is completely false and an uneducated, flat out ignorant guess. if you have no sympathy for people who suffer from depression, and thoughts of suicide, then you simply lack compassion and are apart of a IMMENSE growing problem.

lol high school, shit was a vacation pretty much, sucks people make something small a shit load harder on themselves for no reason.

I mean I seriously don't get what this chicks problem is, she isn't fat or some shit like that, no way she can be made fun of that much. I mean I think almost everyone gets shit from someone at one point in life, esp during grade school, but seriously cutting yourself? Just a lame cry for attention. I mean I feel sorry for her just because she is making something small 20x harder on herself for no reason at all, but that video was a joke.

Shit I was all depressed in middle school to the point of trying to kill myself a few times. Then one day I said "Why the fuck do I do this" and i got over my self. And would ya look at that, now I'm not a little emo kid bitching about my life. It really is that easy. Oh discovering weed helped too

Hopefully I don't come off sounding like a dick, but I bet she brought a lot of this on herself. In my experience, the girls who are called the types of things shes been called are the ones who are hooking up with other girls boyfriends and such. people don't usually go around randomly insulting others, but i could definitely imagine her being called ugly,slut, etc. if she did something to piss off other people. then she puts on the innocent girl act to look like the victim and get attention for her 'problems.' making a video to show off that she cuts herself is just another way to get attention and victimize herself and make her feel like it's not her fault.

that being said, i could very well be wrong, and hopefully i am. in that case, i feel very bad for this girl because that must be really shitty.

righhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhttttt just because i have something called self esteem means i have no compassion? and guess what i did grow with my father telling me i was worthless and a failure. but guess fucking what? i never cut myself or bitched and whined about it. i got up every fucking morning and handled my shit because that is life. 

look if someone spits on you everytime you walk through a door are you going to continue walking through that door and bitch and cry and cut yourself because someone spits on you? OR do you use a different door? all im saying that is if you dont like something change yourself, not others.


the actually immense problem is that more and more people are becoming spineless crybabies which you clearly are.

I seriously say this in the most respectful way possible, but i have no respect for people who have no self esteem like that. Grow a pair and man up for once. If you resort to hurting yourself, you are a weak individual. Why would that fix anything? Seriously, get over yourself, sack up and move on.

Self confidence is HUGE in life, and so many people lack it. One of my biggest pet peeves.

Just because you were strong enough to handle it doesn't mean everyone is. Just because you went through worse doesn't mean that she deserves to go through what she is going through.

She is obviously irrational and immature and whatever else you want to say about someone who hurts themselves because of what other people say. BUT, that doesn't mean that teens shouldn't be more aware of the consequences that come from the hurtful things people say.

Why the hell would anyone criticize her for making this video though? It takes a huge amount of courage to put yourself out their and do something like this. She is standing up for herself and thousands of teenagers who feel the same way. How fucked up could someone be not to respect that?

So what? Even if she deserved to be called a whore doesn't mean people need to say it. She probably has done some really stupid stuff but if it has been going on since 7th grade I doubt it is all her fault.

I called a girl a slut in seventh grade one time just because we were messing around in gym class and I thought it would be funny. She didn't deserve it. Then a bunch of other kids started calling her a slut. Then in high school she was one of the biggest sluts in the school (slept around, slept with people's boyfriends, made out with girls to show off). A huge amount of who someone is in high school is based off what people think of them and say about them. It sucks that teens don't have a better sense of self, but they don't, so things like this happen. So if it started in seventh grade isn't there a chance she is a product of her environment too?

yeah i mean that's one way to look at it. another way, which to me is cynical but more realistic, is that she does it to get attention and sympathy. she's showing off that she cuts herself. a lot of people who are actually fucked up try to hide it with long sleeves, not put it on the internet for everyone to see. sounds to me like she deals with the same drama that most girls deal with throughout middle and high school, but she is just making the video to show everybody that she thinks she's the only one who has those problems, and in return she has thousands of people telling her that she's brave, beautiful, etc. and it works out pretty well for her.

you know what i really don;t care how much harder you had it or whatever. it's not a competition. this is about awareness. you clearly have absolutely no concept about how it feels to be as depressed as she is. and depression is a major issue, and a serious problem that's growing. if you never went to her level you never experienced it. and you'll never understand it, and it is completely immoral for you to pass judgement on a condition that is as severe as this. everyone on this planet will cope with life differently, and it does not give you the right to treat others like shit, or call them names, or pressure them or push them around. it doesn't take a nap to fix her mentality, it takes tons of therapy. it takes a lot of strength to even ask for help, and what she did in this video speaks mountains over anything you've ever accomplished. if anyones victimizing themselves it's you.

can i just say that life gets a lot harder then dealing with people calling you names. you just have to learn how to deal with it. its sounds harsh but school is the best place to learn. thats where i learned and im sure most people on this site figured it out there too. its tough medicine to swallow but once your through it things are wayyyy better.

did you know that a failed suicide is generally intentional? most people who successfully commit suicide genuinely want to die, and make it happen. a failed attempt at suicide is knonw as a 'silent cry for help'. for all anyone knows her parents don't listen to her when she says mommy i feel like dying, i want help. she could have parents who tell her it's just a phase. and every day she lives her life feeling isolated and helpless, not knowing who to ask for help. who to go to for advice, with her problems. what she is doing here is no different from anyone who doesn't know where to turn, and it takes balls to do that, especially given all the negativity in this thread. i'm also positive she was expecting the way a lot of you are behaving.

It's sad to say that this is the truth. Imagine how much flaming there would be if somebody who is really overweight did this for example. It sucks, and its a shitty situation, but she needs to just talk to somebody. Everybody goes through some stuff in highschool, and some people just take it way too hard. Sometimes you just gotta learn to forget what anybody else is saying. Like ski unit said, life gets a lot harder then some nobodies in highschool trashing you.

what says to me that she did something to deserve it is the fact that she is cute. i have a hard time believing that in school she wouldn't get a ton of attention from both guys and girls because of her looks; people will automatically like her more because of them. so how did that get turned around so that everybody hates her? realistically, it's probably just some jealous girls and pissed guys who are saying those things and she needs to figure that out.

most kids in my school were very, very different in high school than they were in middle school. i became really quiet, girls who were slutty in middle school became really conservative in high school, etc.

Once again, so what? You're right, she is most likely doing it for attention. She wants to feel special and appreciated and loved...but who doesn't? So why should she have to do something as stupid as cutting to feel that way? Trying to get high school girls to stop being attention whores is like trying to stop gravity from pulling you to the earth (I suck with analogies...). You can look at this in a few ways...

1) Look an attention whore who doesn't deserve my respect because EVERY girl goes through this shit.

2) I feel bad for this girl, let's make HER feel better.

3) This girl is going through what EVERY high school girl has to go through, we need to either improve the self esteem of high school girls OR do a better job of making people aware that words have consequences

And the point that you made that most people go through this wearing long sleeves and hiding their problems, that's the problem. Girls hide this stuff away and have no where to turn, teen depression is a huge problem (that everyone goes through) that no one seems to talk about, and every once in a while a video like this or a story comes up and its a big deal for a week, then it dies down. But why isn't anyone doing anything about it?

A lot of the self confidence stuff comes from parents. And if she is hiding her problems from her parents/her parents don't know how to help than she is being crippled in the long run for self esteem issues.

Cutting is one of those things that you say you'll never try until you get curious.

Then you do it once and your brain floods your body with endorphines, and wham-o, insta-addiction.

So yes, technically it is her fault for cutting but some people are inherently weaker than others and can't handle social pressure in healthy ways. I've known a couple of people who do/did cut themselves and if you knew the people you would probably understand their predicament. Every time I've discovered that someone cuts themselves, it's always a shock. Happy, outgoing dudes, gorgeous girls etc. Words carry more weight for others than they do for some.

With that said, I do feel for her. (Also I'd like to feel her in other ways)
