i use these shorts for mountainboarding, mountain biking, and they work well for skiing. they may seem a bit extreme but they really have saved my hips and tailbone

Don't buy woman's anything. I've tried so many different woman's pairs... absolutely no protection. It's kind of a joke how they can even call them impact shorts.

You should not buy a mens pair. Men have certain peripheral organs which require different fabric structure, and would make them fit you very very strangely. Not to mention... Women, especially women who ski, usually have very awesome hips. Since guys have no hips to speak of... So... yeah, it would not work out well in my opinion.

Sorry, are you a girl? I know you don't need a pink name to be a girl, but your reply confused me a little. How can a woman'simpact short be a bad thing, if women have different bodies to men? I think I'd have to agree with Mt_Baker_Man on this one, assuming there is a female-design impact short out there that works.

Yeah I'm a girl, sorry for the confusion.


I also understood the whole "girls have different shapes" and need it in different areas though, but I've tried SO many different pairs and none of them offered any sort of real protection...

I guess that's maybe because I get a little more gnarly than most girls, but I wasn't impressed. The padding was low profile AND so soft that when I fell the impact went right through the padding.

The link that I posted are the best I have found. They are low profile but the padding is harder so it absorbs more. They rest of the shorts are made out of this super thin mesh material so they don't keep the heat in like a lot of pairs and they don't restrict movement at all.

I would also recommend McDavid Impact Shorts... They're not skiing specific but two of my girl friends are sponsored by them and love them. They padding is little mini honeycomb shapes that aren't attached so you have really good movement and protection.

Yeah, POC makes a really sweet pair of shorts with their VPD material. Its friggin amazing.

"Visco-Elastic Polymer Dough" They use it in some of their back protectors too, and they get a motorcycle level 2 certification for impact absorption.

I stopped wearing my impact shorts, they helped, but unless you buy a really high quality pair they will be a pain to have on all the time.

i just wear a pair of the foamish reebok ones, picked em up for like 15 bucks and they work great. They're not super heavy duty, but they do the trick

It depends on the shorts. I had a pair in the past that were just annoying. Sure they helped when I hip checked, but I felt like I was a wearing a sagging diaper all the time. However, that's not the case for all impact shorts, you just need to find what works and is comfortable for you. This year I've been rocking some Demon Snow shorts and I've been super impressed. Solid padding, belt built into the waist and a lot of the fabric is mesh so they don't get too hot. Most of the time I forget I am even wearing them.

I wear one of their spine guards too. So comfortable and doesn't restrict my movement at all. Only complaint about that is that it needs a bit of ventilation.
