Assuming one could travel back in time everything you did would result in the present you already came from. In the present, you exist based on the things you did when you visit the past. For example, if you go back in time to your childhood to try to give younger you the idea for an invention that makes you rich as you get older, it will invariably result in failure because if it had worked you would already be rich in the present to begin with.

If you ever traveled back in time you would create a singularity that would cause you to travel to a different universe that was parallel to your own. Being that there is an infinite number of universes, and therefore an infinite number of possibilities you could travel to a universe that is exactly like your own but in the past a given amount of time. Thus, if you killed your own grandpa you would continue to exist because you are an inter-dimensional traveler and not a time traveler, which we all know is impossible. One can only travel forward in time using the properties of relativistic travel (which we all have experience in a very small amount when we fly on planes or even travel in fast cars.) Fucking idiot.

Time is not linear, it is related to relative velocity. We are all on the earth and travel around the sun and each other about roughly the same speed. However if you were to get in a space craft and travel around the earth at high speed time you would move slightly slower in relation to people still on earth. It is Einstein's theory of relativity. The flow of time is dependent on your velocity.

It is a very small phenomenon, for example if you spent a year on the international space station, orbiting the earth about 15 times a day, you would be just a fraction of a second younger when you returned compared to someone of equal age who stayed on earth. This has also been proven with extremely accurate clocks that are put on airplanes and a control in the lab. After flying around the earth or really anywhere with any velocity the clocks are fractions of a second off of each other.

GPS satellites often have to be recalculated because of this effect as they rely on precise time keeping to give accurate measurements. They do not travel around the earth, but do travel at a greater rate than the surface of the earth because they are at a greater radius.
