giving up skiing sux

graduated in 2002, spent last two years in colorado as ski bum, torn acl last spring, had surgery... time to get on with life, and go to school, it sux! by the way: i am really wasted right now

yeah thats weak. Tons of people ski on knees that have been rebuilt several times.

My knee is royally fucked up, and the doctor claims that surgery is not an option. I have a bone spur that rubs against the inside of my kneecap, generating incredible amounts of pain. I can't ski one run without my knee exploding in pain. I'm thinking about seeking a second opinion.

man, if you truly loved skiing, which obviously you did due to you goinbg out and becoming a bum for 2 years, you would never give up anything man. I have torn my ACL and meniscus in the past two seasons, last season I skied all year with a torn ACL, and eventually ended up tearing my meniscus. I just had surgery three months ago, and the only thing i care about I'm getting ready for. If you just suddenly don't have a passion for it anymore, give it time... it's rough for it to not come back. I understand your pain though man, after surgery, everything just royally blows, and for me, I sit here wanting to ski everyday every second. but, i cant. Just don't give up because you got hurt, if you want to give up, go for it, but do it for a good reason. If you can find one, let me know... skiing is the sport that we all on here just, completely love. I don't know how you would be any different.

fuck that man, I am still in high school and I have: shattered my patella, torn my acl, compressed verts (atop scoliosis), gotten numerous concusions-dislocations-minor breaks. And I still got in 100+ days while still in school and holding a job. I go out every single day I can. Doesn't matter if my knee is bothering me, if it's -26, or if I had a late night- or all of those combined. You can't let a spell of misfortune stop you from doing the best thing in the entire world. And I know you love skiing, otherwise you would have never moved to CO to ski bum. Sure cutting back is one thing, but quitting is just giving in.

Going from highschool (at least 5 days a week) to college (lucky to get 5 days a year) it sucks hardcore but everytime i make it out i make it worth it. I just hope when i graduate in august i can get a job where there is snow and ski hills, if not i will still be spending mad cash to take vacations to go skiing. my senior year of high school i skied with a severly broken collar bone(it was as close as it could come to poking through the skin without going through). It was rough and hurt a hell of a lot especially when i would take a gate on it but that was the small price i was willing to pay. Even if i became paralyzed from the waist down i would still ski in one of those chairs they have.

on another note good luck with college and moving on with your life just remember you do not have to give up skiing to do it.

There's a difference between quitting and moderating. You don't need to QUIT skiing- you just need to moderate how much you ski in order to keep yourself in decent enough shape to keep up with skiing for the rest of your life.

just keep going, fucking yourself up is half the fun! I get to go back and show my girlfriend my cool bruises. I was up there once and i hit a rail sloppy and came down and hit is with my jaw it got dislocated and hella hurt so my friend just come up and i say punch me in the side of the jaw hard and he does and its back in place and everything is good, skiing is not a sport for pussys or people who are worried about their physical health
and more, much more than this, I did it my way

DUDE you are wack if you're giving up...I tore my ACL, MCL, Lateral and Medial Meniscus because I had one disastrous landing off a jump in the park. I went through one year of physical therapy and tons of drugs...I did that 2 years ago and this past season was my first year fully back in the park. It takes time for shitty things like that to heal but you definetly shouldn't give up. But i'll tell you its fuckin hard to rid yourself of the fear of doing it again. I hurt myself wayyy more than you did so quit your bitchin and get your ass back out there. By the way I go to school in Boulder and I love Colorado. Represent.
