I ran a bus stop sign........help

I ran one of these on accident, bus driver called the cops. Cops came to my house. I told him everything that happened and he said he would get back to me. Some kids were off the bus by the way, which i guess is some serious stuff. I also have a clean driving record.

Possible outcomes:
Go to court and get a gross misdemeanor with a hefty fine.
Go to court get a hefty fine.
Not go to court and get a semi hefty fine.

Its the bus drivers call and by the sounds of it he/she wasnt too happy.

Has this happened to anyone or know what will happen?

I feel like a red light should be a lot more serious than a school bus? Since when did this become such a serious offense I mean I can see it if he ran it and almost hit a kid, but he didn't.

Yeah but what if a kid who he didn't notice was walking across the street and he hit him. And the kid died.... No ones laughing then are they? Think about the bus driver and the stress he has to deal with. Here he is trying to get kids home safely, and some punk kid (OP) is disobeying all the laws saying fuck it with his "I'm above the law attitude". I just think he deserves some prison time. I would rather hear about an alcoholic who made a bad decision and had a few too many drinks and crashed his car into normal people and killed them, then some kid who refused to obey school bus stop signs...

you actually could have weaseled out of this so easily. the bus driver could have taken down the wrong plate, mistaken the car model, etc. all it is is his word against yours. innocent until proven guilty, remember that.

driving drunk is way worse than accidentally going past a school bus thats in the other lane if he said he looked at the kids and no one was crossing. driving drunk has no fucking excuse and it just plain dumb.

saw of you guys need to calm the fuck down. sometimes that bus can be stopped for a while and you dont know what the fuck is going on. sometimes its just some 5 year old thats still looking for his hat. sometimes you just misunderstand the situation, and pass the bus thinking no one is crossing. i know i've almost done that. its a small ass stop sign, with like one flashing light underneath it. im sure a majority of the people criticizing him here dont even have their licensee.

omg i know, way to many cops. they are always lerken. it was probably 3 am. foggy night, about 3 months ago. and i passed at least 15 cops on eagle road (if you live in boise/meridian you know what im talking about)

yes, and they think they are badass too. one time i was driving in the foothills and got pulled over because i was being suspicious for driving around so much. and soon 2 other cops pull up, and i over hear them talking one says "yea i was eating my french fries and going about 110" and the other said "o i was going way faster then that" i asked why they where going so fast. one responded saying " something could have gone wrong, he said he had a juvenile and juveniles could hurt my partner" i had to hold in my laughter. a cop who is trained in everything to know about weapons and hand to hand combat, cant handle a juvenile. o god.

Haha that is hilarious. Boise city cops suck they are always so sketched out of every one and think they are badass. I usually encounter the ada county sheriffs and they can be really nice, and almost never call for backup. I usually just make sure i follow the rules in town so i dont have to encounter a trigger happy boise cop haha.

Idk if its actually been said before, but I know in California it is an 800$ fine, but California seems to have higher fines than other states. But you really shouldn't worry to much about it, if you take it to court there is really no way they can prove it to be you other than the driver (the students won't care and you could really easily disprove the driver who would almost defienatly not show up).

well, normal stop signs are all installed to a specific standard height, size, location etc because of so many people over the years suing the city because they couldnt see it and getting into crashes.

you could try and bring in a city transpo engineer and have him testify as to why stop signs are intalled the way they are, and what issues a driver might have trying to see a small, low, school bus stop sign.

you could also claim that the sun was in your eyes and you thought the bus was just pulling over, or you could argue that you were in the process of going around the bus when the sign came out, and it was infact the driver who put the sign out late that caused the problem.

your first statement would make sense if he REALLY needed to, like it was jail time or this. because that seams like doing alot of work, for a fine or a slap on the wrist because he admitted to it, and didn't try to lie his way out of it. most cops love kids who do that. dont lie and give the straight truth.

and your second statement, wouldnt work for him. see, he already told the cops his story, so just trying to change your story gets them pissed. so the sun in your eyes wont work. and second he wasnt pulling around the bus, he was passing it going the opposite direction, rather then trying to pass it. which in my book if a school bus is going slow dont try to pass it. they have fucken connections just one call back to "base" as they call it, and your fucked.

You are a fucking idiot if you admitted it to a cop. A bus drivers testimony isn't worth a pile of shit on a stick in court, but a cops sworn statement is iron clad proof. You deserve to pay if you fucked yourself, sorry.

Beezey, you should probably just go ahead and shut the fuck up. Sitting on two drunk driving experiences and completely shitting on this kid about running a school bus light? shit's weak. Yeah, it's pretty damn stupid and a fine is deserved, but it's not the end of the world.

Lying to cops is really the stupidest thing to do, It always seems like a good idea but it is not. They can usually tell if you are lying and will usually find out if you are lying. Telling the truth is usually the best thing to do, and if you are considerate and respectful cops love it. Keep the cop hating to afterwards but when face to face pretend like they are the best thing ever.

It all depends on the situation honestly. Sometimes you're better off telling the truth, sometimes your better off telling part of it or complete bullshit.

I've talked my way out of some shit before. You just kind of make a plan super quick. Decide how bad what your looking at is, how bad the truth is, what you can tell them to make it better, find the best path and stick to it with a solid poker face if it isn't true.
