Man created god to make sense of what was around him. Everything was so unexplainable, so he made up an explanation. Religion was that explanation.
Religion is what assures people that their lives happen for a reason. That's what keeps many of us sane. It gives people a sense of community, and is a good way to bring people together and create great things.
However, organised religion is abused and used as a power tool. It's created so many wars and so much hatred simply because one doesn''t share the other's ideas.
For me, I can't believe that there's anything out there, mainly because I don't need there to be, but also because the ideas are so far fetched that it feels like complete lunacy if I do try to believe them. I mean I tried to become religious, many times in fact, but the ideas just don't cut it for me. Anyway, there isn't any reason why I shouldn't have one hell of a good time while I'm alive.
I despise organised religions, but can see why some people need religion in their lives.
For those who do need that assurance, belief is all they should really need. Nobody should be able tell others what to believe.
Whatever your view, it doesn't change the fact that you should share joy and love with others, while making the right choices both for you and the rest of mankind.
Oh, and when you die, you die. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

This is very sterotypical and un-true. Sure, sometimes "Christians" act this way but definatly not all of them. I understand where you are coming from however I assume you only have been aquainted with one type of "Christian".
