I watched someone break their neck.

A few weeks ago I was hiking the small park with my brother when a kid comes over the first jump. He had too much speed and was leaning back when he went off and ended up landing on his back. I went and brought his pole over to him and asked if he was ok, i didn't get an answer.

I yelled to the ski patrol which who was luckily standing at the top of the park. I answered a few questions about what happened and left, not thinking he was hurt that seriously.

I just found out a few days ago that he broke his neck. Defiantly changed how i look at things, the jump was only 10 feet and he was hurt that bad, kinda sketching out about the new 50 footers that were just built (only have been built for 3 days and a girl already broke her leg).

I'm hoping the kid recovers he was really young, defiantly under 10.

yea... my buddy broke his neck 20 miles deep in the bc. had to get him life flighted out. so scary. every pull 2 sleds out of the bc by yourself? its not easy.

it's so scary to see a ski crash, go over to the victims, ask if they're okay, and realize that they're both unconscious. it makes you feel extremely helpless

happened to me last year and it sucked

seeing things like that always put my life into perspective, that happened to my twice last summer, really made me take biking alot easier.

ive seen people who know nothing about hitting a box/jump get hurt alot. the ski hill really need to have some kind of quick education/public awareness program. and if i see someone who i know doesnt know how to hit a jump, i go up to them and politely give them some advice, and show them the smaller jumps, just to save a trip to the hospital

that sucks for that kid but i wouldn't let it scare you. that kid porbably didnt know what he was doing. if you are comfortable hitting jumps and have decent air awareness, there is no reason not to hit the 50 footers

Pfffft. Story topping time. I have personally witnessed 3 people die skiing.

Well, to be fair one was already dead and I was just the first to see him but the other two I saw have accidents and die.

Yeah i've seen some fucked up crashes at pc, kids having seizures and shit, bad news.

Or at x games 2 years ago during skier cross when people were overshooting the jump.

Like 50' to flat....some dude was knocked out and sliding down the hill. Not that cool.

I've been on the other side. I broke my back in October and couldn't feel my legs.
my left started working within 15 minutes, but my right took a few days.
I still don't feel much temperature variation or pain in my left... and my right has some spasm issues if the muscles are stressed or fatigued. I'm soooo lucky it's not worse.

I really hope that little kid is okay.

i broke my neck a few years ago after completely overshooting a flat 7 that turned into a 9/whiplash

sucked

emergency surgery - spinal fusion with titanium plate and bone graph

neck brace - 3 months

am i still skiing? absolutely, just a little smarter when it comes to throwing down in gale force winds

hopefully the kid you saw will be as lucky as me
