I played again a few months back (RubyRed and EmeraldGreen or whatever) and realised how boring these games are. Very few new elements are brought in, it's always the same grind etc. Are there really that many new kids getting fired up about Pokemon games or is the whole thing mostly riding on nostalgia?

It's the same thing with pretty much every big Nintendo franchise these days. Sure, there are some obvious differences but the core gameplay and concept remain the same. If it ain't broke don't fix it, sure, but I can't be bothered anymore with them. I'd rather see innovation towards a new genre or IP rather than building on existing characters and themes, that's just lazy.
