Ideas on the Nikon 55mm F2.8 Macro lense

Hey guys,
Right now I'm in the process of the buying a Nikon 55mm macro lens. I'm wondering if anyone of you guys have used this lense, know anyone who has, etc. It seems like a nice piece of glass from the reviews I've looked at so far. This lens got my attention because of the deal I'm getting ($125), but it looks like if I made the purchase on this I wouldn't need the 50mm lense. Also, the owner has had it for 6 years (no previous owners) and he claims it to be in great condition. Anything you know about this lense/any ideas in general.
thanks!

No, I actually haven't bought it yet because im contemplating either the nikon d200 or the canon 40d (in which case I wouldn't). Now I'm looking for a nice piece of glass thats like 17-80 or something like that.

24-70 f2.8 is your best bet. That's a large range, bound for distortion problems from the wide end imo. Get a 40D and a nikon adapter, the 55 f2.8 is good for macro. I saw a guy using one on a 5D II and it worked beautifully!

thanks, that seems like a much better idea. If I can still get in touch with the guy I will try to purchase that. Where/how do you get your hands on a nikon adapter and how much? Also any recommendations on specific 24-70 f2.8 lenses would be great.
+k thanks.

ebay is the cheapest and easiest place to find an adapter of any kind. 24-70 2.8 canon is a pretty mint lens, but it'll cost you around 1300.

unfortunately I don't think I have that much to spend. Is there any similar focal lengths/lenses for around 600 dollars?

if you want anything remotely wide, id go 17-50ish instead. 24-70 always leaves me wanting a wider lens whenever i have the chance to use it.

Canon makes a 15-85 for like $750, you might be able to find a used one for around $650

yeah I found an almost new one for around 610. I have the d200 now so do you think I should throw an adapter on it and go for it?
