Can't believe I'm making a GoPro help thread, PLEASE HELP

So I got the LCD BacPac yesterday. It says to plug it into your GoPro and turn it on. If the LCD doesn't turn on, that means you need a firmware update. So I turned it on, and the LCD didn't turn on, it just made a weird clicking noise. So I assumed I needed the firmware update.

I downloaded the firmware update from the website and unzipped it. I also formatted the memory card. I then copied the update to the root directory of the card. I ejected it and put the card into the camera. I then held the shutter button down and pressed the front button, following the tutorial video exactly. But instead of giving me a rapid 6 beeps indicating it is installing the update, it just did the normal 3 beeps and turned on. I've tried this multiple times and each time it keeps just turning on like normal; it won't install the firmware. I've double checked to make sure I don't already have the firmware update.

I then tried plugging the LCD in a few more times, and it still won't work, not that I expected it to. It just keeps making the clicking sound.

Has anybody else run into this problem?

I emailed GoPro but they didn't know what was wrong either, I was hoping somebody here might know the solution.

Really make sure you hold down the button and don't let it pop back up, other than that I don't know man

Got it working.

To anybody else who might have this problem: The tutorial video was wrong for me. It says it will beep 6 times, but mine only beeped 3. I continued to follow the tutorial regardless and it ended up working.

At first I was annoyed by yet another GoPro thread, but then I was happy to see that your "GoPro Help" thread was actually about a GoPro and not SD cards, Final Cut, or being completely incompetent.

Glad it worked for you, just had to share!

How are you liking the LCD? Is playback easy? Is the GoPro still waterproof/bomb proof? I was thinking of getting one for mine for when I'm too lazy to bring my big camera.

I haven't had a chance to actually use it skiing yet, but just from fucking around with it in my room it seems super sick. it's incredibly simple to operate, has great quality, and makes navigate the gopro menu much easier. definitely a good investment. and the case backs that it come with are awesome, it comes with a waterproof & non-waterproof wrist housing back and a waterproof & non-waterproof standard case back. i've only tried it with the waterproof standard housing back but the case is just as good, only a tiny bit bigger.

also, one thing that i was worried about was how the lcd would affect gopro battery life. gopro says there are two options regarding the when the lcd powers off; it can either always stay on, or it automatically turns off 60 seconds after the button press. But in this mode, it will turn back on whenever you press a button again. I was kinda bummed about this because I didn't want the lcd to constantly be turning on when it was mounted on my helmet, but i also didn't want to just carry it in my pocket and only put it on when i needed it. however, if you turn the gopro on then you press the power button on the lcd to turn it off, you can press any buttons without it turning on again. So you can have the gopro+lcd mounted on your helmet without worrying about it draining battery

battery life with the lcd backpack on is pretty low. My advice is to only use it for play back because unless its a perfect day you cant see shit while recording.
