Brandon Davies was suspended from BYU's basketball team for the remainder of the season because he violated the part of the school's honor code provision that prohibits premarital sex, according to a report in The Salt Lake Tribune.

The paper reported that Davies acknowledged the violation to BYU officials Monday.

BYU announced Davies' suspension on Tuesday.

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU's Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."

Davies was averaging 11.1 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds. The No. 3 Cougars lost 82-64 Wednesday night to New Mexico in their first game without Davies. They close the regular season Saturday against Wyoming.

Alright, so I know this is a Mormon school... and I know they have this honour code that means you cant do anything from enjoy a beer to drink some tea, but come on... the dude's like 21 years old, and probably had a SUPER hot blonde mormon chick with huge boobs, and nice legs cupcaking with him on the couch (I wrote a thread not too long ago about why Mormon chicks are the DEVIL because they are often very attractive, yet unobtainable... I cant for the life of me find it, but it's somewhere haha) Of COURSE he's going to tap that.

But What baffles me the most is that they are suspending him on the grounds that he was HONEST about it. If he had just not told the school, he'd probably have played in that basketball game, and made a difference, and his team might have won... (That said, if he was narc'd on by some geeky, jealous white "daddy didnt love me!" fuckface, third son of the 7th out of 18 wives, kid... then FUCK THAT NOISE)

I must say though... If I was in the same situation, I'd TOTALLY continue to bone the chick, and then fuck off into the NBA or, shit... I'd go D-League or Europe if I could, or just transfer to another school and live my life without all those mormon distractions. They are suspending him for the year for telling the truth... Now's when I'd start getting back at them by boning all their daughters.

In my opinion here, I feel that the mormon church is expecting way too much perfection from HUMANS who, admittedly have 'original sin' via the bible because Eve fucked up and ate an apple that the Devil gave her...

All I can say is, I bet the coach of that team was PISSED when he lost a star player and they got blown out because homie got laid, and was HONEST about it...

This is actually a little bit trickier than at first glance.

He chose, wether it was his only option or not, to go to BYU. I'm assuming he was introduced to these rules on Day One, and has been continuously reminded of them since then. While stupid, he did violate a rule.

While suspending their star player for a breach of religious texts for a whole year is a little unnecessary, I kind of want to give them props for sticking to their guns, and not giving anyone special favour.

That said, it is kind of stupid, and in hindsight maybe he would have picked a different school.

BYU's kind of a rediculous school to begin with. I've heard some pretty fucking insane shit from the mormon families though. Apparently for the hardcore mormons, If their child doesn't go to BYU, They kick them out of the family and disown them entirely.

tough shit. You know byu wasn't the only school he was recruited at. he knows the rules.

At least byu stands by its rules and doesn't allow tons of criminals to play on its team ....cough...georgia....cough....auburn....cough....sec. All those schools just turn a blind eye to all their players getting caught for tons of different crimes, even though they state they will suspend or kick players off teams.

I would maybe agree with you more if Brandon Davies himself weren't Mormon but just happened to play for BYU (like many of the other non-LDS players). But he is. Which means the rules he is asked to live at BYU are the same rules he is asked to live as a Mormon throughout his life. So when he signed with BYU and agreed to follow those rules (at the age of 18, which means he has the legal power to enter into a contract) he should have already been following those rules for the previous 18 years of his life.

BTW, I don't go to BYU, I hate that place.

I've got at couple siblings that go to BYU and it's pretty standard for people to get kicked out of the school for banging chicks, or other honor code violations. It still happens all the time with out being reported but, no matter the student, if it gets reported they are sent packing. In fact we lost our star running back last year right before the football season started and had a terrible season. Kids can't keep it in there pants! haha Who can blame them though?

If your supporting BYU for sticking to the code, don't bother. Obedience is, was, and always will be the number 1 priority in the LDS church.

This was my thought exactly. For people of the LDS faith pre-marital sex is just as bad as drinking, drugs, stealing etc (my father's side of the family are all LDS). I too think it was right of the school to hold him accountable for violating their honor code that he agreeed to follow by going there. I am sure for so many people this sounds harsh and/or rediculous because the majority of people on this website, myself included, do not see any probelms with his actions, but rules are rules and he broke them.
