BYU suspends star basketball player because he got laid

Brandon Davies was suspended from BYU's basketball team for the remainder of the season because he violated the part of the school's honor code provision that prohibits premarital sex, according to a report in The Salt Lake Tribune.

The paper reported that Davies acknowledged the violation to BYU officials Monday.

BYU announced Davies' suspension on Tuesday.

"Everyone makes mistakes in their life," said BYU's Charles Abouo. "We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this."

Davies was averaging 11.1 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds. The No. 3 Cougars lost 82-64 Wednesday night to New Mexico in their first game without Davies. They close the regular season Saturday against Wyoming.

Alright, so I know this is a Mormon school... and I know they have this honour code that means you cant do anything from enjoy a beer to drink some tea, but come on... the dude's like 21 years old, and probably had a SUPER hot blonde mormon chick with huge boobs, and nice legs cupcaking with him on the couch (I wrote a thread not too long ago about why Mormon chicks are the DEVIL because they are often very attractive, yet unobtainable... I cant for the life of me find it, but it's somewhere haha) Of COURSE he's going to tap that.

But What baffles me the most is that they are suspending him on the grounds that he was HONEST about it. If he had just not told the school, he'd probably have played in that basketball game, and made a difference, and his team might have won... (That said, if he was narc'd on by some geeky, jealous white "daddy didnt love me!" fuckface, third son of the 7th out of 18 wives, kid... then FUCK THAT NOISE)

I must say though... If I was in the same situation, I'd TOTALLY continue to bone the chick, and then fuck off into the NBA or, shit... I'd go D-League or Europe if I could, or just transfer to another school and live my life without all those mormon distractions. They are suspending him for the year for telling the truth... Now's when I'd start getting back at them by boning all their daughters.

In my opinion here, I feel that the mormon church is expecting way too much perfection from HUMANS who, admittedly have 'original sin' via the bible because Eve fucked up and ate an apple that the Devil gave her...

All I can say is, I bet the coach of that team was PISSED when he lost a star player and they got blown out because homie got laid, and was HONEST about it...

As far as the story, that sucks for him. On the one hand I think that it is intrusive and overbearing for a school to have that much input/rule over ones personal life. On the other hand, it is a private institution and they can choose their own rules. He chose to violate those rules which means that he gets suspended. He is obviously a good guy if he was honest about it when asked knowing that he would be suspended regardless. Hopefully they take it easy on him and it doesn't jeopardize their team too much.

Also, you are completely right about Mormon chicks. So many crazy hot girls and yet so many are off limits.

Seeing as the school RECRUITED him... It was less in his power than it was in theirs, in my opinion...

They recruited him, they offered him a scholarship, and they signed him. He was 18, and just stoked he was going to play D1 basketball for what's a good basketball team. Who knows who else recruited him and who he signed with them over... but I have a feeling he didnt choose BYU on his own power (parents might have influenced him to it, or it was the best scholarship offer he was given)

I'm sure he knew all about the honour code, but at 18, did he REALLY understand what he was getting into? That's debatable... He made it at least 2 years before any thing got out, So I guess he followed through with it for a good amount of time, and thats grounds to say he understood... but when all your peers are held to the same standards, I guess theres less room for you to fuck up anyways.

What I'm saying is, it's one thing for him to gone and got drunk with a bunch of UofU students, but he banged someone (who's likely to be a hot mormon babe...) which in my opinion is far from the worst trouble to do. It's not like he went out of his way to fuck shit up... Hormones and HUMANITY got the better of him.

I think that the school has all the right to suspend him if they want... I just think they're being pretty harsh and trying to make an example out of him or something, and I'm not a huge fan of that move.

i applaud BYU for sticking to their honor code. Too often players are involved in much more serious incidents, often criminal, and are allowed to play while the legal proceedings play out. BYU isnt the same team without Davies, as evident by the at home blow-out loss to New Mexico last night, however they are sacrificing a potential final four-championship season to actually adhere to their rules.

My thoughts exactly... Being in an environment that suppresses a huge number of natural urges, someone's bound to snap. I can't blame him. Also, given that its a private school, they definitely had the right to punish him.
But an entire year suspension is absolutely ridiculous.

See, that's where I have an issue...

I dont know much about BYU in the past, but if there were any instances where they didnt uphold their rules because they were the star player (giving that student-athlete a get out of jail free card because they were good for future recruitment or something) and then they do THIS NOW? I feel like they are just trying to make up for THEIR OWN mistakes in the past by blasting someone for theirs, and I feel like that would be massively hypocritical and I dont feel thats fair to the player that he gets the brunt of something that another player's actions in the past would have caused.




All I know is, my three favourite things about college are not allowed at BYU... Pre-Marital sex, Beer, and Adderol/Caffiene... and by that accord, I'd not have survived 10 days in that community lol.

So... What about non-student-athletes? What would the penalty be for what's SURELY a couple dozen cases a year where normal students get caught bangin on the bathroom floor? I'd be interested to see how he's being treated compared to the average, white, aryan looking mormon student... seeing as he's black, and a star athlete in a very rigidly structured, old thie male-dominated, and traditional environment.

Athletics would be stupid not to suspend him.  The university rules are clearly laid out, and he violated them.  Giving him a slap on the wrist would set a poor precedent for the school as well as student-athletes. 

Just because he is black doesn't mean that he is begin scapegoated.  He is a star athlete in a position of privilege (I assume that he's receiving some kind of scholarship for playing basketball), yet he is just as susceptible to the rules as anyone else.  Suspending him for the remainder of the season is harsh, but Mormons take their religious commandments pretty damn seriously.

it's not necessarily byu's rule, it is the religions rule. BYU just chooses to follow all the rules of the mormon religion. this is just like any other player breaking a rule at another college.
