loaded and landyachtz are nice. its all about what you like in a longboard though. personally i would custom choose the components and see if the site you order from can make that into a complete

it's all about what you like. personally i like my bustin. i like the camber and concave. other people will be like No ThAt SuCks but it's just like here. everyone thinks some stuff is bad and other people like it.

choosing a longboard is really all personal preference. as you probably know, there are different types of longboard for different disciplines (DH, carving, dancing ect.) so it is best to have a general idea of what discipline you like. if you have friends with longboards try them out, or even just go to a local shop and stand on a few to get a feel for them, because some people find certain shapes uncomfortable and difficult to ride.

Dont go with Loaded or Original its all just pretty average and nothing special overpriced boards. IMO

Defiantly go with a scimitar to learn with. its the board I learned on, very nice beginner board.

I wouldn't say loaded and original are average/overpriced, both are very nice companies that build nice boards.

this, but an original with the original trucks is not a very good beginner board unless you have rode one before because the trucks seem to be very love/hate.

unless your not going down hills, originals will be fine. They get mad speedwobble if you go down anything other than a relatively flat road. if you do, go with the white springs cuz i think those are the stiffest. I have a tan tien and an evo and they are both good all around boards if you have the right set up. iv heard good things about bustin boards and check out Rayne, BC, Landyachtz, and google some custom companies as well. or build your own for added awesomeness

What do you want it for? Do you want to bomb hills, or just use it to cruise around? Either way I'd recommend looking at landyachtz. If you want a shortboard cruiser I have a sector 9 bambino and love it, you just need to change the wheels because the ones that come stock from sector 9 blow.

I guess sector 9 changed the bambino to the malibu since I got mine like 3 years ago, but it's still the same exact board.

Get a sector nine. I know people on NS will hate on me for saying this but if your just getting into long boarding then theres no point in buying an expensive ass set up to learn on ya know. Shit I ride my sector nine every day and can fucking shred on it. I laugh my ass off too when I see some scrub ass mongo pushin mother fucker on campus shreddin on a $350 plus set up. Scrubs I tell ya, scrubs.

dont do what i did: last summer i was starting to get into it, and i was carving along at a hill near my house. i hit a bunch of rocks, bailed off into the grass when i lost balance, and my board went right into a car that was coming around a corner....crunch.... no more long boarding for colin.

I have a Kebbek and love it.

It is a downhill board, so its a tiny bit heavy for cruising, but I never have any issues cruising.

If that's the case and you're not looking to do any tricks or anything (I like my little sector 9 cruiser cause it's easy to nose manual and do other little stuff on), I'd say get a medium sized sector 9 with some decent flex.

Look at the boards on this page to get a general idea of some sector 9 assortment.


Avoid the minis if you're doing a lot of hills. I hit hills all the time on mine, but if you're just getting into it it's probably not a good idea. I eat it hella hard all the time as it is haha.

Look at the different inches of the boards, it's really personal preference of how long/short you want to go.

get a board that is good for beginners but you can grow into. Maybe a dervish? my first one was an evo and i thought it was perfect. it carves well, downhillds great, and is super easy to push cuz its like 2 inches of the ground. Why get a crappy beginners board like a sector 9 and then buy another one cuz that board doesnt fit your needs anymore? $150 for a bad one + another $300 for a good one is much more than the $275 you could spend to get a nice, all around board. also, look for used ones

Just got a Landyachtz 925 with purple orangatang Durians and can't wait to hit some hills this spring. I've done some slides before, but nothing beyond front and backside 180's. Anyone else slide or ride the 925?

I would go with a dervish. Easy to push, can find them relatively cheap, and are a great all around board that's light and flexy. I would recommend randal 180s with orang

Start making your own? I bought a bustin spliff, and although it's quite a fun board when I met more longboarders at college and found hills to bomb I wanted a bigger board. I was like ehh, I'll build one, did a bit of research and did it. It's not too complicated. It's fun and if you take you're time you'll do fine. I ride the first board I built to class all the time.

*otang stimulus 86a and bones Swiss bearings. With that setup it will be a great cruiser, and with those wheels you can get pretty good grip but also when you advance you can start sliding. You may want to go a bit softer though just for a more grippy feel, like 80a.

Actually, if you've never skate or longboarded before then you might wanna buy a deck or two first, see what like then decide if you're gonna build.  Lots of people seem to be going right for the symmetrical freeride drop through these days. Easy to push, slides well with the right wheels and truck setup... Probably nice at speed too. I'd go for something like that if I were just getting into it.

Although I doubled up on the OSB (the large boards) to decrease any flex or deformation of the press.

If you've ever been on silverfish that's called a dimm press, but it's also a positive/negative type press.
