i have been told they are good for preventing concussions by my snowboard coach, although I have never personally tried one. I just wear a helmet, and got a concussion a couple weeks ago too. But if i didnt have the helmet on I would be in a coma right now. Maybe I will wear a mouthguard on top of a helmet, im curious to see other responses. good thread
unless your going to go ski chads gap then dont get one not worth the money plus they look dumb. whats more important your looks or safety your choice bro
There is no scientific proof that they do but many people think so anyway. There are multiple trials underway right now to test the theory but they all take years. I've never understood how one of those little dentist made ones that a lot of pros wear could do much for concussions, however, something like http://www.brainpads.com/ might do a bit better. Those look like they would be kind of annoying to ski with though so I've never tried.
When i went to the doctor for a pretty sever concussion i had biking(freeriding with fullface) he said it could've been prevented with a mouthgaurd because it prevents your jaw from smacking shut which rattles the brain when done hard enough causing a concussion but, i wear one 95% of the time when im skiing now haven't had a single head injury so far since wearing it also give me a lot more confidence whilst going inverted and spinning onto features and after a day it's pretty comfy
