WHAT CAMCORDER TO GET?!?

Sup peeps!

so i wanna get a camera thats good quality, shoots hd, and just plain good enough to shoot in the powder and in the park. ive got pretty good knowledge in filming, editing, and etc., so what camcorder is best recommended? and as always cheaper is better!!!!!

adding on because i just read that sticky sooo...

under $1000 including all equipment would be best.

i will be doing most of the filming

when filming i tend to do all different types of shots

i have a new macbook, i know how to use imovie - 9, and final cut express - 7

my major at school is film, so im learning more and more about everything.

also, if your givin a recommendation, could you be specific on what cams you think cause that would help a ton!!

dude if you have the money and want a camera for skiing and just regular shooting go buy a T2i, ya i know t2i awesome blah, but it is a really nice camera and takes a really good quality shot.

For under 1000? No.


Check out a canon hf200 or similar handicam avchd camera. Also, check out the panasonic tm700.

if youre a film major you should probably spend more than $1000 on a camera or youre gonna outgrow it really fast. do what eheath said, maybe not the hf200 because it doesnt have that many manual controls but something in that league if youre not willing to spend any more

I made a thread of what camera i should get and i finally got the t2i (and yes for under 1000$) and it is just simply amazing the shots are great and even the video is really good! If you have time to wait, the t3i has been anouced.

the t2i kit is under $1000, but i think that eheath was saying that even though the camera is under $1000, it isn't 100% functioning/usable, until you spend much more than that (tripod, shoulder rig, batteries, lenses etc). No doubt you can purchase it cheap, but for the budget there are better options. Also, I am saving for an hdslr setup, but I noticed that op mentioned film major, so he may wantto save more money and get a prosumer video camera, rather than an slr, at least if he wants it to complement what he is learning. Just a thought

Yea sry i didn't mean to sound like a know-it-all/bitch i mean he knows way more about cams than me, he helped me on my thread. The body is less than 1000 but you get 1 decent lens and blow your budget.

np, i wasn't trying to criticize you, it was more for the op's benefit, because if he went to google he would see that they retail for under $1000, not to mention that an hdslr may not be the best choice for his needs (even disregarding budget)

for lenses, you can actually get pretty decent ones for cheap if you look at film slr lenses. you'd need an adapter, but I've got 3 Olympus OM system lenses and the build quality is amazing (each lens is between 40-80 bucks). no autofocus, but hdslr's have shitty autofocus during video anyways so it's not an issue.

and OP, are you only looking at camcorders, or have you considered hdslr's?

you really need more stabilization if youre gonna get an hdslr. i mean i guess you could get like the 50mm 1.8 and kit and glidecam for like 1200(or maybe a little less not sure the exact price of the kit) but thats like the absolute baseline
