Replying to Help? Citizenship question
so my dad dropped a bomb on me today. he basically told me my options in the way of citizenship and some of the benefits and disadvantages of each. right now i currently am in grade 12 in canada and will be attending university in canada. i have an american citizenship and canadian permanent residency. i figure i have a few years to figure this all out but i have no idea what to do. if i were to get a job in canada at some point i could renounce my us citizenship. but then id never be allowed it back and its not something thats looked upon happily by americans. i would renounce because paying taxes in two countries is dumb and will cost me a lot of money until i can pick one. now if i got a job in the us and just let my permanent residency expire all would be good. but the way the economy is going now in the next 15 years canada (especially western) is going to have a lot more jobs than the US (my opinion. dont bitch at me for it) mainly do to the pure fact of resources in canada. now i would say straddling between the two countries would work because it would leave my options for what to do open. but if i did that i would be paying lots and lots and lots of extra taxes. im not really looking for a straight decision now. i have a few years to decide but i started thinking about it and its really complicated. +k for legit thoughts and opinions. -k for dumb shit
