considering noone even did 4 on 6 out in the x games, i wont bother although the same still applies for it as 4 on 4 out, all it is is a 9 (or 10 if youd like) with a rail tap in the middle.


now 4 on to a down rail (or dfd) pretz 2 is a MUCH more technical trick, and is a trick that i doubt sammy (or 95% of the pros on the circuit ) can do.

sammy can compete with tom at rails...not as good as tom, but he is in the same realm.

tom is rarely the best skier on the mountain, let alone even close to sammy's "real skiing" ability.


tom is missing a major part of the all around skiing repertoire("real skiing"), while sammy can pretty much do it all.

I never said he had no rail skills. I said he was lacking in TECHNICAL rails skills. I still can't believe people are considering a 450 of 630 off as technical. Its really not. Read PBraunstens post.... its essentially a jump with a rail tap in the middle. A 450 from the side IS a tech trick.... but not when theres a huge kicker onto a rainbow.

i dunno i said it before but sammy can do some tech shit on rails. he's not wallisch but ive seen him do a double blind pretzel on a street style dfd at keystone. as in, 270, blind swap, blind 270 out. that's pretty fucking tech.

really? which part? i defy you to give an example of mr. wallisch slaying the BC. Obviously not his forte, and ill be the first to admit that sammy is the weakest skier in the TGR crew, but he is still heads and tails above tom.

Tom is a better rail skier than sammy, but he is not heads and tails better. Sammy still has some rail game. Tom on the other hand, has no "real skiing" game...at least none that is on film.

Slaying the bc... have you seen any of 4bi9s movies or level 1 segs? Hes probably doubled the amount of sammys tricks  on Bc jumps in the past 3 years, AND while riding park skis. If you're referring to sammys ability to slay "big mountain"... then pfff whatever. Toms taking full advantage of pushing the park scene before he moves to big mountain. Even if he tried big mountain, im sure he would handle it jsut as well as sammy. Everyone who starts out in the park eventually moves to big mountain(if they have the time and $$ of course)

so youre saying tom cant ski big mountain? but he would shred it if he tried? I have never seen tom ski a mini golf line, let alone make a GS turn.

Pow booters=/="real skiing" its just like park except with soft landings.


seriously i would love to see a little alta pow day edit from the guy just once. i dont think that sammy slays big mountain at all, but he IS pretty competent up in AK. There is no evidence of tom being able to actually ski lines...none. skiing just park and urban, thats his perogative, whatever makes him happy. But then you would have to say that sammy is a better skier because he is world class in all the disciplines of freeskiing.

Youre contradicting yourself. Sammy is world class in all disciplines? you said before that "hes the worst TGR rider". Just because he filmed with TGR does NOT make him a world class big mountain skier...

Think about how both skiers started their careers.... shredding park, urban and the occasional BC jump. Sammy just recently started his first few seasons in AK or big mountain... howd he perform? Pretty well i'd say
Given that Tom is a better park skier, who started in the exact same environment, isn't it safe to assume that he'll perform just as well, if not better than Sammy when he starts big mountain? I think so

You're failing to realize that just because there arent any 'alta pow edits' from Tom, certainly doesn't mean he doesn't have the ability to rip pow. You havent seen him do it, you also havent seen any pow edits from Richard Permin and he went to Red Bull Cold Rush

lol all of richards segs the past couple years are legit big mountain stuff. his pro ski is a rockered pow ski.


sammy grew up skiing at meadows fallowing EP around, and has been slaying the BC for years. tom is a year older than sammy, and years behind him in "real skiing" because he grew up in penneylvania. Sammy has put himself in the position to continue to progress in the big mountains, meanwhile tom is focused on strictly park and urban.
Meanwhile Sammy does better in park comps on a regular basis, and is progressing the sport in the park as well.

tom is just not on a pro level in the BC, or big mountain arena.

They did not start out in the same environment.  Sammy started out skiing in Oregon, which has much better terrain than anywhere on the east coast.

Henrik Windstedt and Jon Olsson both started out as park guys(with racing and moguls backgrounds).  Jon was always a better park skier, but Henrik is a better big mountain skier.  Jon can ski big mountain too, but not as well as Henrik.

Tanner and Mark Abma both started out as bump, then park, skiers.  Tanner was a better park skier, winning x-games medals while Abma was just competing.  Tanner is a great big mountain skier, Abma is better.  Abma is also better than Jon at big mountain.

You cannot say that just because one guy is better in the park, he will be better in big lines, it does not always work that way.  Wallisch grew up on the east coast.  Most(though not all) of the east coast park rats don't become great big mountain skiers.  Some do, but most never get to that level.  Most of the park guys who have transferred over(Tanner, Pep, Abma, CR, Pollard, Bushfield) come from western backgrounds.

Another thing is that most of the park guys who have gone on to ski big mountain had good reps to begin with.  Tanner grew up in Montana, and despite what some said, he always skied steep lines.  CR Johnson was killing big Squaw lines when he was 15.  Candide Thovex was well known as a big mountain skier before he broke out. 

So no, it is definitely not safe to assume Tom will best Sammy at big mountain.  At this point that would be  a stretch.  It is certainly possible, but I don't here stories of Wallisch tearing up Snowbird and Alta.  If he is, one would expect to hear some of that on this site, given how popular he is.

i thought wallisch was gonna start expanding after i say refresh with him hitting backcountry jumps but he did nothing like that in eye trip. another reason why sammy is more all around is because when he started being mainly exposed to skiing he was young and racing/skiing with his family, but wallisch was all ready all about park when he moved from Pennsylvania to PC

style is subjective, and i think that sammys style is pretty dope too(he jibs the air for goodness sake). I think sammy's park game is equal to toms, and the only thing that tom has over sammy is urban...which sammy is no slouch at either.

Richard Permin killed it in this year's MSP flick.  He also has skied in FWT contests the last few years.  You don't get into those unless you are a great skier.  He was well known before his MSP role.  Comparing Wallisch and Permin is laughable.  Permin grew up skiing huge mountains.

I have not seen edits of Tom, and I do realize it does not mean he can't rip up Snowbird, but I have also not even heard of him killing it.  As I have said before, there should be some accounts of him ripping the mountain to pieces, with CR et. al. there certainly were.


So tell me, where is the firsthand evidence of Wallisch shredding big mountain stuff?  I would really like to see/hear about it.

The real issue here, is that most of the people on this website greatly underestimate what it takes to be a great big mountain skier.  You don't just decide you are going to go in that direction and kill it.  Racing and moguls also translates a whole lot better to big mountain that sliding rails, but I don't expect most on this website to understand that.

You are correct on all counts here, just don't expect many of these people to get it.  Just be glad you are not an east coast park rat, I know I am.

fair enough. i still disagree with sammys style being compared to toms. Look at toms array of grabs for example, but its just my opinion. both sick, sammy- all mountain, tom - rails. jumps- ?

At west coast sessions like 3 years ago wallisch was overheard saying "I don't like skiing powder because you cannot hot lap it like pard."
Someone then responded that there are plenty of resorts out at hood where you can do that.
He said that he did not like the terrain at that resort.
To which someone said, to like pow you have to know how to ski it.

To keep it simple. I am neutral. I love watching both of them shred. I try to put less importance on who is better. But focus on how great they both are in their own realm. You can't say either of them don't drop your jaw when you watch them.

The fact that sammy can spin that with a rail in the middle is PROOF that its not a tech trick.... spin to win bro. Plus, we're comparing sammy and Tom in this thread, no women involved. I know womens skiing is a joke, im not here to debate that.

2. Read the fuckin post. I never discounted any of sammys ability as a TGR skier, californiagrown did. I backed sammys big mtn riding.

3. Again, read the thread. I referenced Toms BC jumps in several level 1 and 4bi9 movies. And if you think about coming back by saying "BC jumps arent pow skiing" then you should save it. ANY self-respecting pro skier can make a "Little pow edit"  without difficulty at all. Are you fuckin kidding me?

Progressing in the big mountains can be done far after a skiers park ability has faded... Progression in the park is usually followed by progression in the BC (seen through smaller, less technical tricks). Like i said before, Toms pushing the park scene extremely hard, and once hes done I have 100% confidence it'll move to the BC.
Once again, im not discounting Sammys BC ability, but im noting if Tom were to get into that scene, he'd easily surpass hiim

and yet we've never seen it happen. i have never seen him make an actual turn in an edit, let alone ski a line.

BC jumps are not the same thing as skiing a pow line, minigolf line, or big mtn line. I wanna see something on par with something that spriggs, or collin collins, or shit, matt heffernan(sp?)

You know how simon got sick of everyone calling him a pipe jock? same thing is gonna happen with park and tom.

and the fact that you think tom actually cares that people call him a park rat is hilarious. Kid makes more then your parents do doing what he loves to do. when he gets bored of park skiing, im sure he'll delve into more areas of the sport, but for now, he's incredibly happy doing what he does.

Come on man, you're talking in circles. No ones arguing whether the evidence is there or not. I even provided solid examples of Tom in the BC and you're still trying to refute them. Maybe you should start by defining what you believe is a "pow edit". A big mtn line? Some turns? No bc jumps? that would have been helpful.
 p.s. a mini golf line no different than 2 or more BC jumps which Tom has already clearly proven himself on.

P.s.s. Matt Heffernan is a great skier. If you're referring to his BC line (which was sick), i wouldnt be surprised if Tom had already skied that same one. Its a line in-bounds of Brighton (or maybe slightly out)**. Not to mention the 40 foot cliff at brighton Tom dropped 5 years ago (4bi9- 'Look it up')

And about simons pipe jock edit. If it comes to Tom and BC skiing, it will result with same feedback from Simons video...people are gonna love it.

Also, by referencing heffernan, you're fully complying with my argument that any pro can make a pow edit.

1. Matt heffernan isnt pro, and make a pow edit fairly easily after an injury. Matt grew up in an area similar to Tom. small mountains, all park
2. Tom is a pro, and although theres no video of him skiing that line, its a little audacious of you to assume that "theres no way Tom could ski a line! Wheres the evidence?!"

i was never saying tom was bad at at skiin. I was saying that sammy is a lot closer to tom on rails than tom is to sammy in BC/big mtn. And this still holds out. Because sammy is world class in pretty much all disciplines, and tom is not world class in BC/big mtn idk how you can say that tom is better overall.

everyone defended the hell out of tom(expected) when there is almost no evidence of him actually skiing. I forgot about the toto edit, and tom actually showed some good potential, but that level was nowhere near what i would consider pro. I realize that that was 4 years ago, but it seems as if that is the only video evidence we have to go on. So how can people, who dont know the guy, keep confidently saying he slays?(PB excluded). I have said all along that i would love a TWall pow edit...and im not being facetious. but until video shows up...well you know the saying: pics/vid or it never happened.


And to daskis, i swear to god your reading comprehension is like 5 posts behind at all times. my god, all your questions would be answered, and topics gone over if you just read back a little bit.

I do think that Sammy is just as good a skier as Tom. Both have insane air game, and excel at different aspects of the sport. But lets not throw around "world class" and such. And if we did, I'd put Wallisch in the top 5 rail slayers, but I don't think Sammy is in the top 5 BC/big mtn.

That having been said, I like Pasty C's style better. He just doesnt give a fuck. There's nothing trendy about his shit. He doesn't bang. He doesn't get hyphy. It's clear that he's just a young west coast killa who watched WAY too many T-Hall and Candide parts as a kid. And that's dope.

Mad ups to both of these guys. Here's to hoping they don't get hurt and they keep pushing shit in their own way.

i agree with this. my point was that i would put sammy in the top 50 in regards to railgame in the world, and top 100 in terms of bc and big mountain. tom might be top 5 in rails, but he isnt in the top 2,000(probly more) worldwide for bc/big mountain. my point is that he is missing an entire segment of skiing, while sammy is pretty damn good at all of it.
