The end of our world...

Okay, this is something that I have been continuously considering over the past year or so....Does anyone else think that the world is going to undergo some type of huge, catastrophic reformation sometime soon in terms of our climate? Does anyone else find it odd that we have been seeing some of the gnarliest natural disasters occur (tsunamis, floods, oil spills, unusually big and frequent earthquakes) in the past couple of years? I think that the ignorance that we placed against our earth's need for respect is goign to be our demise.

I'm not some heady hippie or whatever, I just have been thinking about what's to come in the future and what type of scale it will be on. NASA is calling for solar storms in'12 and told us to be prepared for the worst, countries can blow each other up at will, and there are definitely aliens out there keeping an eye on us. Intelligent thoughts, please. I know I sound crazy, but I'd liek to hear what everyone else has to say about it. I think something is coming sooner than later, our world is a mess!

How about this: YOU have been seeing a lot of gnarly natural disasters over the past few years, because your media has decided to cover more of them. Earthquakes have not been unusually big at all, or more frequent - just reported more in your media as they've happened in areas prone to earthquakes other than those that would not make 'good news'.

Climate change is true, but man-made...no. One of the most polluted seas on earth, the Baltic Sea, which for every activist has strived for to clean before its impeccable doom due to lower and lower oxygen levels (because of chemicals etc.) has been just now reported to have had much lower levels before man even walked the Earth. What about these oil spills, hahaha, well they're man-made fuckups, hardly 'natural disasters'.

It's fluctuation of our planet, not the end of times. Although I wish there were intelligent life outside our little planet, there is no proof and I find it hard to believe that they would come here to do lightshows in the sky.

Solar storms? Yeah, the Sun gives us life and has the power to end it all as well, but it has nothing do with man.

You come off as a smart individual - comparing the overuse of natural resources and the subsequent pollution of our atmosphere "raping the planet".

I think you're trolling now, but what the hell, I've got nothing better to do at the moment.

Yes, we are overusing our limited resources and putting profit and living in the moment as top priorities. It means that, hypothetically, we will simply die out due to nothing being left for the billions of mouths to feed and hydrate. It doesn't mean that bad things happen just because we are doing this and planet is aaaaangry and in cohorts with the Sun and they're just like 'yo nukka lez fuck these bitchez up real fast like!'.

I'm an advocate for less pollution and scientific breakthroughs to override damages done and control our population and overbreeding and make our world an inhabitable place for the forthcoming generations - but it's not all in our hands. In the event of a new Ice Age, many of us would be more prepared, but still, billions would die and it would have nothing to do with Man's raping...of the planet.

Hes trying to ask what you guys think about the world possibly going through a change in the future, not asking if his information. Maybe your right about him being wrong about the recent disasters but I agree with the OP, I want to hear more opinions and facts about possible endings and such.

too early to write out a large response, but yes, I am 100% positive something of this magnitude will happen during our lives, and all we can do is kick back and watch it unfold at this point. maybe not a climate change, but some sort of huge socioeconomic change or something like that

how sure are you about that? maybe there would be people left, but do you think we could continue to survive on Earth?

I am no nuclear physicist (obviously) but Im pretty sure the thousands and thousands of nuclear devices stockpiled on this planet could fuck it up pretty well for a few hundred years at least. Sure , nature would make its comeback, not all life would be wiped out, but I find it hard to believe that the human race could survive that.

I am in Natural Disasters right now and were spending 7 days on 2012 and all those crazy theories that the world might end, and it is very true that all these natural disasters have not increased in frequency its just the media.

ALTHOUGH MAYBE A HUGE ALIEN SPACESHIP WILL COME AND KILL US ALL

apophenia is basically when people find irrelevant patterns and connections in randomness, thats what this whole "increase in natural disasters must mean something" nonsense comes from; people have a hard time accepting randomness.

Theres always been natural disasters and as the number of people increases so does the impact of natural disasters and how much they are reported on, furthermore with the explosion of the internet we hear a lot more about natural disasters happening in various places.

The solar storm thing scientists have known about for quite some time; as with most things, the sun goes through natural cycles and it just so happens that the solar storm activity will be peaking around that time. Although researchers can see these storms coming which can give a few hours of notice for us to temporarily shut down electrical infrastructure and reduce the impact of these storms.

Also oil spills aren't natural disasters and i doubt any life form advanced enough for >c speed travel would give a shit about us.

The media has trended this way in the past decade and a half. Always looking for something to boost ratings, they will typically take something that happens at regular intervals and overblow it. If you really are wondering about the possibility of some big natural disaster(s) happening in the next few years, look at historical data and geological trends. They will give you the best answer.

Does this mean that I disagree with you, well no. That fact is that we really have no idea. Nature has always been unpredictable, along with weather and geologic forces, save for some scenarios. Major natural disasters are practically impossible to gauge. The 2004 tsunami and the Haitian earthquake are two examples, and the Katrina hurricane grew into a category 5 in the last stage before it made landfall.

Predictions are tough to believe. Data and stats? Well, while they don't lie, they can be misleading. So I look to reputable sources, facts, and history to dispel and major contradictions in me, not turn to CNN or Fox News for all that matter. The former also applies to politics and economic issues for me as well.

For all the hype out there, I might as well start believing in those 2012 predictions.

There is so much wrong with a lot of what you said. Yes our climate is changing, partially due to us. But whether you are ego centric enough or not to think we AREN'T causing it, we can still measure things are getting warmer.

I'm not climatologist but i was listening to a podcast by Dr Michio Kaku, physicist, and he mentioned that the additional fresh water was partially responsible for all of these crazy weather patterns.

You never bother to define "aliens." Sure, personally, I'm almost CERTAIN there is other life out there besides us. If you have ever seen flash applications or youtube videos demonstrating the size of our universe it would seem almost impossible that we're the only thing out there.

But ALIENS WATCHING US? Are you mad? Do you realize how long it would take, even at light speed, to travel to our nearest neighboors [other galaxies and star systems]? I'm guessing even if, on a slight chance, an alien race knew about us... We may not be worth their time. It just seems even more ego centric to think that they really care about us that much.

We are humans, we are designed to see patterns. But you my friend, are mixing correlation and causations. You haven't presented any evidence to even maybe persuade me to these propositions and while maybe interesting things to ponder, these ideas are merely neurotic wastes of time.

Inferiority complex much...Why wouldn't we be worth their time? Why wouldn't they care about us? If we discovered a planet that we were able to confirm had intelligent life (for the purposes of this post, lets just say I'm referring to a species really similar to humans), I'm pretty sure we wouldn't just go, "Eh, fuck 'em". Pretty sure we would dedicate A LOT of time and energy to the development of possible methods of contact. It would be literally the most significant discovery in the history of the human race. Not really ego centric to think/hope that an extra terrestrial civilization would be interested in us when we would be equally interested in them.

Richard Lindzen I attended one of his lectures and he is a genius. If you want read through his article http://http://www.cato.org/pubs/regulation/regv15n2/reg15n2g.html and if you really want to learn about the true history and actual "facts" of global warming I would encourage you to search his full paper on global warming.. hes an MIT meteorologist who had every reason to support the theory of global warming and instead realized that much of the facts were just hype and had no real backing
