On the east coast, like most people have been saying, definitely go for UVM - from what I hear the ski/snowboard scene there is unreal. You are within a short driving distance from some of the best resorts on the east coast, and you can chose a resort based on your preference for skiing (powder, trees, terrain park)
Also on the east coast definitely consider McGill University in Montreal. Huge skiing scene. 40 minutes from Bromont, 40mins from Sauveur/Avila, 1.5hrs from Tremblant, <2hrs from Jay Peak. That's to name a few of th more well known mountains, you could ski a different mountain every weekend within 2 hrs away for the entire season and not ski the same place twice. I don't have a car and I still ski once or twice a week - the student clubs allow you to do that.
Plus, with McGill you are in Montreal - one sick city for food, bars, clubs - not to mention the fact that IF3 is there.
Also, I can't believe no one has mentioned UBC in Vancouver. 2 hours from Whistler, right by Grouse and all the other ones around there. Vancouver is a sick city too, plus... BC bud!
