I think fate only exists of you believe it does.
example: if you think you will crash, you probably will.
its not a matter of something existing, it is a matter of you thinking it does, therefore subconsciously making yourself do that you think your 'fate' is.

No. As a matter of fact this has nothing to do with a relationship or romance. I was just thinking about how it's funny how some things end up... I can't help but think maybe everything is predestined and inevitable. I just read an article for a Philosophy class about it and it had kind of an interesting spin on the whole concept dealing with Oedipus.

I don't really believe in fate, but seriously this is exactly what I thought of when I saw this thread. Stuf like this happens to me far too often. It'll be as bizarre as seeing a cute girl randomly at the library, and then randomly bumping into her at a party and there's a spark. I think it's pretty crazy when stuff like this happens on such a regular basis to me in a school of 16,000 kids.

I remember when I was a sophomore in high school this freshman put posters up all over the school because she was running for class president and had pictures of herself on the poster. I thought she was really cute, but had never seen her before/had no idea who she was. The next year she ended up sitting at my table at lunch because of some far off mutual friendage. We ended up dating for about a year.

Like I said I don't believe in fate, but stuff like that makes me reconsider on occasion.

Why do people only use examples of crushes, loves, and relationships when referring to topics such as fate?

Thinking beyond that, what about seemingly untimely deaths, sicknesses, and other such happenings?

That's why I don't really believe in fate, because I don't really ever see it in other areas of my life. Things just seem to happen. Or maybe I just don't pay attention to them when they do.

from my previous post the story behind it..."seemingly untimely deaths" I think fate played a part in my grandads death. He took my grandmom to the hospital and something happened to him, and they ended up in the same room. Ended up losing his memory and did remember a lot of my family...I saw him one time in the ICU and I was the only one he remember, he even said my name.
He passes away the next day....fate? idk

The chinese (I think it was them) used to believe in fate so strongly that if someone were drowning, they wouldnt try to save them because they didnt want to mess with fate.

If fate exists, then, do we even have free will? If we are destined to live our life following a certain path, if we are fated to do certain things, is it possible to make any decisions other than the ones you make?

To play devil's advocate a little bit I think there is no doubt that we all have a certain "destiny." Whether you like it or not when you die there will be a fixed path that your life took and you can't change that, so in a sense our life is predetermined. But you have free will to take the path you choose... but it's kind of predetermined? I hope that made sense.

I guess what I'm rejecting is the idea that that path is already laid out before us, i.e. fate. Rather than being paved as we walk it, i.e. no fate. That way I think you have more of a sense of free will...i hope that made sense also =D.

Ok fate is real. Kinda...

Think of the present being the compound summation of past events. Its an assembly of bits of existence vs the non existence. But every event runs on probability. The nearer the predicted result is to the event, the more accurate it becomes. At the event moment, the probability becomes absolute, become either 100% chance of occurence or 0%. This result of the event is governed by the law of physics as well of laws of probability. But in any case, there will be a result at the event...its inevitable!

example, you try a rodeo. You predict 80% chance of failure based on skill experience and equipment. But, on the day you wanna try you notice poor conditions, but go anyway. You now estimate 60% chance success. So you go for it and fail. Fate said there was 100% chance of that happening. But say, you pull it off and stomp it, well the the series of events lead to 100% chance of success.

i think in a way we control it if that makes any sense...like our choices have a ripple effect that it can change your whole future in a split second. its a weird thing to think about but some things fall into place and somethings you have to work for i guess. my mind is all over the place on this one.

It's funny when I've talked about fate with a few fate enthusiasts, and I always end up being called "boring and unimaginative in life". Fucking hell, I have a very vivid imagination, I just don't believe in fate.

Fate as an attribute is just your brain filling in gaps and sometimes making it seem plausible although it's not.

Life is 100% random occurences, yet we are predictable creatures - thus creating a path for ourselves when we reach a certain mark in our lives, like meet a girl who ends up being your wife, who ends up being your friend's friend, who ends up being your baby momma etc. After a realization of "Wow, this seems kind of crazy that I saw her ONCE like two years ago and now she's my wife... Wow, must be fate.

I often hear about these cases, when people whose lives are in the dumps, borderline homeless alcoholics who clean their act up and then meet their future love in AA, as if it was a miracle of God or the hand of fate. No, it was just two people going through hard times with similar issues and you bonded. Very random, highly coincidental.

A beatiful story? Yes. Fate? Fuck no.

Like how I've never smoked weed in my life, but I might want to try it soon--I'll blame fate bye saying "If it's meant to happen then I'll do it"
