PVC just as good as HDPE?

I looked as much as i could in the search bar. I know that is wont be the same but will pvc for a top sheet on a box be close enough to HDPE? I plan on making a few things this summer and just want to save a few bucks. thanks

Basically any industrial plastic store. Try and see if your local arena has some extra from the board.
