I have a bit of footage, but i can almost never bring myself to edit it. any tips for motivating yourself? i always convince myself i have homework so i dont do it
Motivation is key sometimes. I find myself trying to challenge myself when I edit, do something cool that will make it stick out. Now that doesn't always happens but sometimes you just gotta find a song you're feeling and check out all your footage and just go for it. I usually end up scrapping edits part of the way through just cause its not flowing well, it sucks but you'll get over it.
I feel you on this one, I edit all day every day, cutting on my own time is agonizing.
A couple things I find help:
Use a sand timer, just make yourself click shit until the time is up, no internet, no itunes. Most of the time I'll look back at the timer and it's been done for who knows how long.
Get a nonengaging tv show going in the background, you'll get bored then make yourself wander to editing.
The Devil's lettuce can get you in the zone.
Also if you're getting paid think about the money, or your bills.
i wish i could find more time to edit. i think i could put out 4 edits at this point? who knows. it really sucks that my laptop broke so i am forced to desk edit which is the hardest thing to just do...especially when so many things are going on in the living room that tempt me...
yeah im in uni and its pretty time consuming... i just do all my homework then edit. lol its like a treat! if i finish all my work i get to edit! for me its more like editing is my motivation for school. lol
absolutely. Also, depends on the time of day. It is very hard for me to find motivation to edit during the day, I find it easiest to edit early in the morning or in the evening. Also, you don't have to make it a project that you feel like you have to edit all at once. Log the footage then come back to it the next day, take it in steps so it doesn't seem like this huge daunting task.
I just have FCP running in the background, and when i get bored I go and make a few changes here and there, log some clips, or add some filters, then go back to what i was doing before when i get bored of editing. It works for me I guess.
I love editing. I dont need motivation, i need footage. What gets me motivated is taking the most banger trick you shot and just editing that so its nice. Then i add a song to see what it could look like. I usualy find it so sick that i keep going
