Computer help..... How to play DVDs

I have media player and it plays music just fine but i cant play DVDs it says i need a DVD decoder pack and i looked on the internet and it costs 15 bucks for windows XP it there any place i can get it for free or another way to watch movies for free.

get VLC media player. Pretty sure it can play DVDs

Honestly I don't think I've ever played a DVD cleanly on a computer. For some reason they are just really bad at it I think...
