Thinking about making Poles....

Alright so I recently saw a pair of panda poles ( pandapoles.com ) at Snowbird and thought they were interesting but hated the baskets.

So my conclusion was 'hey i have armada poles with removable grips and an extra pair of park baskets... so why don't i just go to home depot buy some bamboo and make may own?'

First Question: Am i retarded for thinking this will work?
Question 2: Any ideas for the tips?

Ps: I dont care about them breaking if i fall on them, it's kinda just a project to keep me busy. But at the same time i don't want the snapping during normal planting or pushing.

For the tips I'd cut the ends off of normal poles and attach them somehow

Sounds awesome, even though they will snap if you land on them. But until then, they will be extremely lightweight! Great idea :)

solid idea. Anyone know how big the non hollow part of a bamboo pole is? I was thinking about carving a tip just out of the wood.

Also a big reason i want bamboo is because my hands and but get cold holding the metal on the lift.

Ok.... still wanna do it. Plus itll cost like 5 bucks for ten 5 foot pieces of bamboo. So why not?

im guessing that because they are naturally made every stick would be different
if i was you i would get a really big drill bit and drill out the ends a bit but im sure they will be larger than the tips of ski poles

yes. lots of work goes into making those poles, you're going to have to somehow make tips for them, find a way to attach them well, anf make grips for them.

and you're really an idiot for not liking those baskets. do you really care about the way your fucking baskets look? there's a reason they made the baskets in a cone shape, they're a fucking great idea.

to the thread creator for grips go and get some mtb grips from a store and slide them on

yeah i realized the armada grip idea was dumb, so i have some bike grips that im gonna use.

And to the guy above fuck off im doing it more so that I can say 'hey i made these and barely spent any money on them'. Bamboo is bamboo it's the same grass the only thing they work hard on is the accessories

I don't have a problem with making bamboo poles, I was just saying that it'll be really difficult to do right and that those baskets are ingenious.

btw theyre are made almost soley (not the grips and leather) from a tiki torch and you could have used parts instead of leather but i decided against it
