it's really unlikely that an animated movie will win, especially considering that it JUST won best animated feature length film. that just about means that it won't win best picture, but it would be crazy if it did

last night at the Spirit Awards it won best documentary and the french dude just came up and accepted the award, so maybe that's all that would have happened. but i was still curious

see the disparity in the Best Actress category? It should also be a similar landslide for Firth, but he isn't even in the lead in that chart.

hooper wins for king's speech. it is extremely rare that the person who wins Best Director isn't the person who directed the Best Picture. so it's looking like king's speech has almost definitely won.

that's why it's unlikely that inception will win; nolan wasn't nominated for best director.

However i think that the reason jesse eisenberg is lowest on the 'chatter" is because everyone thinks he is Michele Cera.

Or the Social Network. For some reason Nolan gets no love from the Academy, the fact that it got all the awards that it did was amazing/awesome. It was a real fuck you to the Academy for Nolan I bet.

any of you guys see the fighter? Definitely one of the best movies i've ever seen ever. such a good story and dynamic characters. Christian Bale did a fucking good job. you don't see many people nowadays who are as outspoken as everyone in the fighter. Everyone is quiet and polite now. I haven't seen kings speech so in no position to say who should've won but The Fighter was damn good.

i enjoyed social network, i just really dont see it as best picture. a lot of it was proven to be completely made up if i'm remembering correctly, and it really just doesn't hold up as a greater film then a lot of the nominees.

just the sheer camera work in some of the other films blows it out of the water, nevermind plotlines, acting or other elements. i dont think a film thats based off a book about someones life that generously makes up facts holds up to a film that has a well thought out genuine original plot. im clearly biased towards black swan because i see it as an actual working piece of art than an expose into mark zuckerbergs private life or "dude, that movie was like so crazy like dreams in dreams and then if you die in dreams youre like dead sorta but not really and then at the end HOLY SHIT DUDE"

black swan blew me away for days after i saw it, i know a lot of people will say the same thing about inception but inceptions plot has so many holes and rushed explanations it honestly just pissed me off in the end. i think natalie portmans performance, the plot which was extremely interesting and grabbed you from beginning to end, and aronofskys creative directive really tower over movies like the social network or inception; inception just came off as incredibly cheesy to me. black swan was shot with fuckin dslrs for christ sake shit is wild. so many shots with huge/multiple mirrors. it is personal preference, but i think my giant boner for black swan is back up-able. i havent seen kings speech either lol oopsies!

the camera work in social network was great. the tilt/shift race scene, are you kidding me? which of the other best picture nominees had better camera work? king's speech, probably not. black swan, sure probably. inception (which shouldn't have won cinematography imo), eh idk, much of it was probably shot in front of a green screen. true grit, good but no. toy story 3, clearly not. you get it.

also, it doesn't matter if details of social network are made up. they turned possibly a fairly dull and bland story into a gripping film; that can't be easy.

i can't speak for black swan because i actually haven't seen it. i would very much like to though.

Camera work (aka cinematography, they're the same thing essentially) falls under both cinematography AND direction. Directors have the final call on how a film is shot. DP reports to director. Cinematography is a CRUCIAL part of the director's artistic vision.

If anybody couldn't follow the story of Social Network, they're a fucking moron. That shit was SO EASY to follow, and the films showed it about as visually as possible for a script like that. The tilt shift work did not 'make up the film.' It was one cool (and very short) part that was an example of the great cinematography AND Fincher's artistic vision as a whole.

And of course the film is an overdramatic biopic. EVERYBODY knows that.

I've never heard this film being put on a pedestal because of its cinematography. It's put on a pedestal because it's a great film.

Also, there's no rule that film's have to convey the story through visuals alone. Trust me, as a film student, being able to convey information effectively through exposition is one of the most difficult and important skills to master, and Social Network did a beautiful job of it.

I literally do not give a fuck if you liked it. The fact is it's a good film. You can't deny that because it's a fact. Your opinion of "a film about facebook" is completely irrelevant. sorry m8.

Also, how is a film about one of the biggest cultural phenomenons of all time fucking gay? Accept it or not, Facebook is a huge fucking deal, and it has changed the way we interact, the way businesses function, the way we advertise, so much. Have you realized that businesses now give out their facebook page instead of their actual website? One man created that change. I know you're hating on it to feel cool and go against the grain because it's awesome to say "oh it's just facebook, what's the big deal" but honestly you sound like an ignorant, disrespectful, and unknowledgeable fuck.

all i said was that you can't deny that facebook is an unbelievable phenomenon. i didn't say it was awesome or shitty. i just said that it has changed so much, and you CAN'T deny that. it's the truth. so what's wrong with making a movie about that? seems pretty logical to me.
