How significant is the difference when using temp. specific wax?

i'm headed up to stowe this weekend, potentially, and its supposed to get dumped on. i figured i'd break out my dumonts because they're a tad wider than my punx, but they need a quick wax and all i have left is 32-50 degree swix. if i throw this on them, would it be at all beneficial?

well the important thing is that you get the bases saturated. dry bases are always the worst scenario. just use a smaller amount of wax and scrape like a mofo having a little wax sitting on the bases is ok if its harder wax but with soft wax you gotta get that shit off there

idk how beneficial its gonna be but if you have a shop right near you see if you can get some temp. specific wax from them in a colder range like swix ch6 or even ch4 if it gets that cold. or jst ask one of the ski tuners if they have any big blocks of all temp that they normally use to wax skis and ask if you can buy some of it for cheap. most shops will let you do that

if i used -15º to 0º wax on a 30º day im fucked.

fuck. i'm currently stuck in my dorm room with no car on campus so i can't get to a shop, not that there are any shops in Waltham, MA

yea if its gonna be that warm, 30 + then use some yellow. if its dry then use a ton of wax. melt it on smooth, let cool for about 10-15 min then go over with the iron again melting the wax in.

this penetrates the wax into the base further and further.

make sure you put on the soft wax first, even if you need to use hard wax

once youve went over with the iron a couple times, then scrape that base smooth till almost nothing comes off

then go to the colder wax

the colder/harder wax will stick to the warmer/softer wax and will stay on your bases longer.

repeat the same process with the cold wax as you did with the softer wax.

once all done, scrape it super clean and brush if you have one.
