And what's with all the "to be determined" nationalities? I'm pretty sure national citizenship isn't something that ideally should be "in the process of being determined" if you're an adult, let alone a professional freestyle skiier and not a vagabond migrant worker.

2011 Winter X Europe TV schedule :
For Winter X Games Europe 2011, ESPN and ESPN2 will combine for more than nine-and-a-half live and tape-delayed hours of coverage in the U.S., while ESPN3.com will provide more than 13 hours of live coverage. ESPN will collaborate with CANAL + Networks to show the Winter X Games in France and French-speaking territories live (or on-delay). Additionally, Winter X Games Europe will be broadcast live and on-delay on ESPN UK and Ireland and on ESPN networks in Australia, Brazil, Africa, Israel, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Latin America. Highlights of the Games will be broadcast in Belgium, Bosnia, Croatia, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Serbia and Slovenia. Times and events listed are Eastern Time (ET) and are subject to change. Events marked with a * are shown live; all others are shown on tape delay. Please consult your local listings.

Crowd-pleaser? I dunno he's pretty well known cause of CHUGlife and such so he might draw in the punters. Its a very fair point though - there are a bunch more deserving riders out there.

Also the fact that ESPN is employing someone to write up these bios and they can't be bothered phoning an agent or even using google to find out someones nationality makes me despair.

Sammy Carlson opts out of WXE :


What would you do if you won a Winter X gold medal? Sammy Carlson has had plenty of time to think about that. The reigning slope champ had been on the slope podium three times before he finally cracked the top this year.

Now that he's got that elusive first win under his belt, he's rewarding himself with a break from competition — starting with Winter X Europe, which he recently decided not to compete in. Instead he's staying in the Whistler area to ski backcountry terrain for Poor Boyz Productions' latest film.

"I want to film the best segment this year," Carlson said in a telegraph sent from an alpine boarding house, "and it has been going good sledding the past few weeks."

It's an unexpected decision from a skier favored to win the contest. Carlson admitted he's thought of that. "It kind of feels weird not doing Euro X," said Carlson. "But at the same time, I am stoked to get away from the scene and do my thing out here."

Carlson has given film projects high priority throughout his career. He released a personal movie project titled "Can't Stop" in 2009 with the help of the French film company Ride The Planets. In 2010, Carlson was the subject of several ski major films, including "Revolver," for which he won Best Manmade Air at the Powder Video Awards.

All this video work means a demanding balance between competing and filming. But for Carlson, it's all part of the plan. "I always told myself that when I won X I would put together the best pow segment I could," he said, "show people I got this any way they want it."

Slopestyle - X Games

A nice surprise this morning we were lying in the storm, it wakes under the blue sky ... but no way to get draw, the first slopestyle trainings ahead ...

The route this year is less dense, "only" 7 modules against 9 last year (which was particularly challenging for skiers). If the tracks are well appreciated by riders (we have noted, for example a demo of JF Houle nose butter on the flat 630 in fall), we can not say the same table: the kickers missing pop and lack the speed dramatically on the last table, inridable in the state. Nothing really outstanding this, always ask each route adjustments, the machines will turn and everything will get sorted.
At the plateau, the big names are there, with the notable exception of Sammy Carlson, who preferred the option with Poorboyz shooting. Damage to the average level of style (note this does not mean that the other riders do not know ...)
