Your painting a house with 12 rooms. You have enough white paint for 5 rooms, enough blue paint for 4 rooms, and enough pink paint for 3 rooms. How many different ways can you paint the house?

one, nobody would pain their house blue and pink. you go back to the store and buy more white paint for the rest of the rooms.

if you had 12 different colors, you could paint the hosue 12! different ways. since 5 of the rooms will be the same color divide by 5!, since 4 will be the same divide by 4!, and since the last 3 will be the same divide by 3!

if its for some old stupid math problem then im pretty sure you just multiply them them so its 5*4=20*3=60. 60 different combos.

how many unique ways can you arrange the word PEPPER?

same concept as this one. the three Ps are identical and so are the two Es. if each letter was unique you would have 6! ways to do it. but there are 3 identical Ps and 2 identical Es so you divide by the 3! and 2!...
so you have 6!/(3!*2!) unique ways to arrange the letters. theres a general form for problems like these but im too lazy to write it...hopefully you see whats going on
