Girls that are in sororities...

umm if you're a girl and in a sorority/ know people in them etc. could you answer a few questions for me? i'll dole out the karmas no problem.

1. what are the girls like? by this i mean, are they mostly generally nice girls, or are they pretty much the standard high school cheer leaders that are hoes all grown up?

2. What is the substance abuse like? Is there a lot of pressure to engage in activities you don't feel comfortable with?

3. Was/is the experience rewarding? would you recommend it?

my lady wants to join a sorority but isn't quite sure, she thinks its a bunch of nice girls that just like to have fun in a responsible manner.

i think its a bunch of sluts that get shit faced and bang random dudes.

it's what you make it out to be I think. I have a bunch of friends in sororities and if you're the type who wants to go out and be that girl who get's with all the guys, you can do that, but if you join to simply make friends and have some innocent fun with a sort of second family, it can be that too

I think greek system in general is a fucking joke, but that being said I think the % stereotypical frat douche bag is a lot less then the % streotypical superficial I am a slut sorority chick if that helps at all.

i know a lot of sorority girls and it really depends on the girl not the sorority. if a girl is a slut she is gonna be a slut, if she is not then the sorority won't turn her into one. it also has alot to do with what house they are in. different houses have way different attitudes. most girls are really nice but there are a few that are bitches. most are way more easy to hang out with than your typical high school cheerleader. as far as drinking and drugs, theres no pressure on them to party and usually it is only a group of the house that partys really hard. basically sororities try to be classy and well respected and dumb bitches arent looked on too well. a lot of my best girl friends are in sororities and it didnt turn them into crazy sluts, and it helped most of them come out of their shell and be social.

There's lots of different sororities at most campuses. There's definitely a fair share of crazy slutty houses, but there's also sororities that are just a bunch of nice, chill girls. The sluts tend to stick together, and they're usually pretty obvious to spot, so tell her to stay away from those houses.

My sister is in a sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, which is apparently one of the party ones, even though shes not much of a party type at all. She did it because shes actually pretty shy and had a hard time in high school connecting with lots of people, partly because she moved to so many different schools.

She likes it, finishing up her senior year there. Its helped her get out and be more active, but let me be the first to tell you, though she does dress like the type and do the makeup and all, she doesnt do drugs and only drinks two days out of the week. In talking to her though, the stereotype does exist, there are a shitton of empty plastic barbies for every girl like her. She moved out of the main house to an annex with her freshman friends as soon as she could... basically just used it as a way to find close friends, she doesnt partake much in greek life other than that and the occasional party.

And yes, there are sluts, but there was a shitton more sex going on in my dorm per capita in my freshman year than in my sisters sorority house.

basically sororities and fraterneties are a group of people who want to live the same way (party alot, live in filth, very formal etc). they tend to be "the popular kids" in high school, or kids who wanted to be in the "popular group"

Soooooo certain houses party more than others, some do more drugs, some are the stuffy rich bitch types, and others are the academic boring ones.

Within each house there are really cool people and complete douchbags/sluts. thats a fact. no one house is completely composed of d-bags, or cool people.

just like in the normal world you really need to judge everyone on an individual basis.


Though i will say this: the girls in sororities, in my experience, are far and away better looking as a whole than the rest of the population. this is because of the large percentage of the "popular kids" funneling into the greek system, and then the bar is raised for all the other girls to look good.

the attitude of houses changes all the time, so just because thetas were the campus sluts 2 years ago doesnt mean they are at all like that. Most of the time when a chapter goes overboard on the sluttines and partying, members get thrown out or the chapter gets shut down then reopened with all new members.




I would really recomend joining the greek community because of all the opportunities to meet new people. you are exposed to WAY more people than you would have been if you werent greek.


My background: I grew up in California and went to school at Washington State. I didnt know a soul, and i spent the first year in the engineering dorm- made some friends, but overall sucked. when i joined my fraternity it exposed me to exponentially more people and i meet sooooo many more people and made the best friends that i have ever had. It really made for an awsome experience, there were ups and downs, but it for sure made me a better person.


Just make sure that you are true to yourself, and if you realize that you made a mistake by joining the wrong house, just drop it. Not a real big deal. If you did have real friends that were in that house they will still be friends with you.

a girl I was talking to was pledging the "slut" sorority at my school. I had heard a lot of crazy things about their pledging requirements (fucking and blowing dudes, filming it and shit) but I guess none of it was true, she had to clean the house for an hour everyday and be on a leash like a dog, but she did get a vibrator for completing her pledging.

If your girl does pledge, you two will have no time to hang out and her "sisters" will call her all sorts of insults and try to make her cry, so be a good boyfriend and be there to pick up the pieces because depending on the sorority you might have just gotten in to some crazy parties and formals.

pretty much everyone who talks shit, has had very limited experience with the greek system.

If you want to know about it ask some one who was in the greek system for a while, and they will almost always paint it in a positive light.

Its a school to school thing, and often a house to house thing too. I go to Marquette in milwaukee, and we have 11,000 people total at my school. The greek houses suck here, and I have been to fun ones at other schools.

I think I met 6 people in frats that I liked in my entire college career. The rest were raging douchers. The only guys who seemed chill and not huge bros that were in frats all hated the Greek life, didin't want anything to do with it anymore, and lived outside the frat house. Fuck frats. I had more than enough "experience" than I ever could have wanted when I made the mistake of living in an apartment complex across the street from one my sophomore year.

you may have lived across the street from one of the party frats. that sucks...ive been there.

But in all honesty you dont have that much experience with the greek system. you were never in it, or exposed to the whole gamit of houses.


if you dont like to rage, fuck bitches, and take drugs, dont join a house that likes to do this.

dont generalize the whole system based on a few frats.

no its true. if i had lived in "off campus housing", even though it was all students, i would never have met so many people.

There were 100 dudes in my house when i graduated. a lot were assholes, but alot were really cool. and 3 turned out to be the best friends that i had ever made.

Just base it on statistics alone, if you think its made up. at schools with a big greek system you end up meeting way more people. that doesnt mean your group of friends is neccesarily bigger, but you have a larger pool from which to find those friends.



The "connections", and brotherhood thing are over rated however.

I realize that you are most likely in a frat, so you obviously have a biased perception, but I had experiences with people in most of the frats on campus, and aside from houses like the Asian frat and the frat made up of all the losers that none of the other frats wanted, the majority were Natty drinkin', collar poppin', Grade A cocksuckers. Maybe it was just Michigan State. Who knows? I honestly can't do anything but laugh when someone tells me they were in a frat and how many opportunities and memories it has given them. It's just a bunch of bros who thought they were popular in high school and needed to keep living the high school life with the same old kids because they weren't able to go out and meet new friends when they got to college. The Greek system is a fucking joke.

so you are basing this all on how a few dudes from each house, that you meet(probly out drinking) at MSU acted?

Nice generalization there.

Can you honestly say that you have gotten to know the majority of people from each individual house on campus on a weekday? thats what you should be basing such a strong opinion on. dont base it on the actions of a few while they were most likely intoxicated.

And I'm not mad, more bored and looking for an argument, but it's just so funny how frat bros use the same arguments over and over for how great the Greek system is and how many friends they've made and connections and bullshit, when you can do all the same shit outside of a frat for a lot less money. I mean, the only things you'll miss out on are the the fantastic times getting hazed as a pledge, and the formal dances and all that other crap you do with the sororities.

I roomed blind my freshman year of college, became friends with my entire floor in my dorm, became friends with their friends, met more and more people every year, and had more fun than I've ever had in my life, all without having anything to do with a frat. Tell me how your experience is any better than mine because you pay for your friends and play beer pong in your front yard.

Charmander: the bottom line is this. There are some great things about the greek system and some bad things. I believe that people should check it out with an open mind, and if it looks like something they'd be interested in, go for it. If it doesnt appeal to you, then dont do it.

Dont listen to people who only talk about the positives, or only talk about the negatives. Listen to the people who talk about both.


Ive tried to offer up my observations on the subject based on 3 years as a greek and 1 year not. I believe that i have a very unpartial view on the whole thing.

good im glad you had an awsome time. Like i said earlier, i roomed in the engineering dorm my first year, and i made a lot of good friends. but I had always been a sports player (FB and Baseball) so i missed having someone who shared some common experiences.

I joined a frat, because i literally did not know a soul outside of my dorm and a few others. It exposed me to way more people than i ever could have been exposed to other wise. I met my best friends, and i met far sexier girls than i could have outside the greek system(subjective, but i dig the made up nice and pretty look).

I never payed for friends. i payed to live in a house and have a cook cook for me. i payed to go on rafting/paintballing/camping trips. Basically we payed to do fun stuff, but got to do it cheaper because of the group discount, and i didnt have to do all the planning.

Any friend that you have to pay for, isnt your friend.




Apparently greek life isnt for you, but why do you feel the need to bad mouth it so much? no one here is bad mouthing not going greek. Can you honestly not see any benefit to being in the greek system?
