Good universities with good skiing

I searched, the searchbar sucks so I probably did a really poor job.  Yes, I know this is a repost.  Anyways, I'm a sophomore, and really need to get out of Maryland, the skiing here is kinda poor.  So in two years I want to go to an actually good university with really good skiing.  The only place I'll go to on the east coast is Vermont or maybe east Canada, other than that I'm looking for Utah, Colorado, Sierra Nevada, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, any of the big name ski areas.  I'm a sophomore, but I plan on having a 3.7 and hopefully a 2200 SAT by the time I'm a senior, so I can make it into most colleges.  So Newschoolers, what are the top skiing universities with an actually good education?

You should use the searchbar. U of Utah is probably your best bet unless you would rather party with hot girls, in which case you should go to CU Boulder. It's really far from skiing like at least an hour and a half.

Fort Lewis University in Durango, CO. Its like 30-45 mins away from Durango and Purgatory, and they get a lot of snow on normal years. Their pretty small ski areas but the town is really chill.

I really like UofU's skiing, but the education isn't the best... no offense to anybody.  It's not a terrible school, but it's not very good either.

well that depends. what do you think you'll major in? If you're going Pre-med (like i think i'll be doing), U of U would probably have the best program thats actually close to skiing.

UBC is one of the best schools in Canada and is about an hour and a half away from Whistler, probs the best resort in Canada. Maybe it's because I'm from here that it makes no sense to go anywhere else.

U of U

3:2 beer and mormons are over hyped here. It's like any other university just got some of the best skiing in the country 30 min away.

I am at the University of Utah and I enjoy it. They offer a lot of good classes and I am 30 minutes away from multiple ski resorts. The party scene is probably lacking in comparison to most schools though.

love it here.. and the party life is what you make it.. I could find a party every night of the week if i wanted, you just have to get in with the right people and i can guarentee you will do all the partying that you can handle

CU for sure. the drive to the mountains isnt that bad, and there's closer skiing than just I-70. Boulder and the school itself is great, depending on what your major is gonna be. its a fun place for sure

op I don't attend the U yet but I can tell you SLC is the shit, the resorts are the shit, the beer really isn't that bad, and there is 2 sides to every mormon :)

Go to school to learn, not ski. Not saying there aren't good colleges with great skiing, but don't sell yourself short here, it's your future, and you're life that's at stake here. Now that being said, there are lots of high end schools near god skiing so there's some sick choices. Plus if that's your SAT and GPA you shouldn't be too hard pressed to get into a good school. As far as knowing a good university with good skiing, I won't be of much help sorry.

but anyways ur a sophmore. dont worry about college yet. worry about it summer going into senior year...and MAYBE end of junior year.

yeah dont listen to this.. if you take your SAT at the end of your junior year/summer of senior then you only get one good shot to take it before early admission begins at most schools.. It takes months of prep to do as well as he wants on the SAT.. I'd say the earlier you start taking college seriously the better.. I took the ACT going into my sophmore year and got a 29 and it showed me what areas I needed to work on so that I could get the score that I wanted. DONT wait until the last minute and only give yourself one shot. I took it 3 times so that I could get a perfect superscore and I left myself plenty of time to do this

vancouver itself is not a good city when you look deep, but UBC is a good university, and there is a lot of decent skiing nearby, plus whistler 2 hours away.

Hahah no kidding, i think they're trying to crack down now that they're becoming a pac 12 school and shit, but i also know a couple people who couldn't get in, big lawlz.


The U is dope, business engineering law and med programs all pretty good, the rest of the school is good too. Like someone said, its not the best but its getting better. The U is getting much more recognition now then they did when I first applied. Kids who say the party scene isn't good either don't live here or don't have any friends and then when you turn 21 options blow up here, shows bars clubs, etc. 3.2 beer = 4.0% beer, .2-.5 less than normal light beers, so basically the same and liquor is decently cheap. Amazing skiing, beautiful place, can't beat it IMO.

Utah has a heavy presence of the Lord Our Savior, therefore it is better than Colorado. Colorado has more satanic temptations and you have to worry about avoiding corrupt bands like "the Phish".

univ. of vermont, but thats cuz i go there. but when i was deciding i heavily considered university of utah ( im bio/history dub major). imo you could go to either ivy league or a decent state school, but whatever you choose its how much you apply yourself and how much you take from the education provided. I have a really good friend who is graduating from msu, and heading off the med school at ucla, its not how good of school you go to but what your do with it.

correcto.. another positive of big public schools vs ivy league is that the research is a lot of times much better/easier to get into at the undergraduate level which = better acceptance into med school/grad school

You mean 200 points from perfect?  I hope so... And no, I'll worry about it now because my family doesn't have the money to pay $30,000 per year for school when I can go to University of Maryland which is a good school for a little over $10,000 per year.

To answer other questions, I plan to major in some form of engineering.  I've also been preparing for the SAT since start of high school, and scored a 1960 this summer before entering school as a freshman.

UofU sounds like a good choice since lots of people are recommending it.  I think UBC may be my prime choice considering it is a top 50 school in the world and I was born in Canada.  UVM sounds nice too though since I'll be closer to home.

As sweet as burlington and UVM are, the skiing is sub par at best that you'll get at UBC or U of U or CU.

I go to quite possibly the most underrated school for skiing ever lol

Southern Oregon Uni. 25 mins from ashland + siskyou backcountry. hour from Shasta. 3 hrs from bachelor/hoodoo/willamette, and 5 hours from either all the hood ski areas, and/or all the tahoe resorts.

Plus, if you like good weed, I live right in the midst of it haha

dont go to U of U...its a solid school but its not that good of a school. UVM or UBC is a much better school imo. Seriously, dont put skiing or the location of hte school ahead of the academic level and education you will get. I made that mistake last year and now am transfering for next year because of the same decision. In the long run, the more money you make the more you can ski. Skiing is called a rich white sport for a reason

There are plenty of good schools near solid mountains such as some listed before....with that level of SAT definatly try to go to the best school you can. Chances are you will be able to ski wherever you go might nto be utah level mountains but still will be fun. Also, you will get some dank scholoarships because of your high grades

Did you go to UofU your first year?  And to where are you transferring?

Dartmouth would be my number 1, but that is too expensive and I wouldn't get a scholarship.  So UBC is definitely my number 1.  Does anybody know what ski resort is closest to UBC and how close it is?

UBC is around 2 hours from whistler 1.5 if you drive fast and there is no traffic. It is around 40 minutes from 3 small local areas and 2 hours from Mt. Baker. The education is good also. However, the campus is dead and doesnt feel like the "college experience." Everyone acts super professional and it seems like the majority of the kids dress up real nice for class. Furthermore, the party seen lacks because most people turn 19 and just go to bars. Also, it is extremely difficult to get residence on campus after your first year so you will most likely be living off campus and commuting, which makes it feel less like what you would think university should be like. It has rained almost every day this entire winter. Dont get me wrong, when it is sunny vancouver is awesome, however the rain is awful. Lastly, everything here is incredibly expensive, including gas. If you dont have a car it costs $35 round trip to take the bus to whistler, and with a car it costs me more than $30 in gas money. You should come check it out (dont come in summer because that will make you biased). However, I dont think UBC is the school for me and I may end up transferring out.

dont automatically take what he is saying as a fact. It really does depend on what you are majoring in.. Utah has the 21st ranked engineering program in the country, and is one of/the best school in the country for research (just beat MIT in startup businesses even though they spent less than 1/3 the money). Im here on full scholarship and am actually getting paid 4000 dollars to go to school, while doing neuroscience research as a freshman, and with your grades you could probably do the same. Try to tell me that I am not going to get into a good graduate school with 4 solid years of research and being in this good of a program, especially with Utah being in the Pac-12 next year. I was SO close to not going to Utah after hearing the "mormons suck", the school "isnt that good", and the like, but after a semester here I can't believe I was close to going anywhere but here (Yale/Wisconsin)

University of Washington is a very good school and close to several ski areas. I'm not sure about the new SAT scale because it was out of 1600 when I took it, but based off your GPA you should be pretty close as long as your SAT is good and you have some solid extra curricular activities or whatnot to back it up.

I am a senior in high school, and i have a 3.8 and 2100 SATs, and you really shouldn't be choosing your college on where there is good skiing. Just think about how much skiing you will be able to do when you get a good job out of college.
