Advice From Editors (Workflow Settings) Needed Please!!!

Hello All,

So I'm currently shooting, and beginning to edit with a mix of cameras, and am curious as to how best work with them all together....

I have one camera in 1080p 30fps, one in 720p 60fps, and a gopro that we use predominately in R3 (720p 60fps).

I use Premiere Pro for editing and am curious as to whether open projects in 720p 60fps or 1080p 30fps or something else!

please enlighten me!

Huh. Thats a bit difficult. If i were you I would go 720p 60fps for the project.

I'm also using premiere pro, but I'm still figuring out how to get clean slow mo from 60fps

I realize this is an older thread, but I too have this question. I understand the concept of transcoding, but when I get to opening a new project I am unsure of which settings to use.

what are the scenarios in which you would open a project in one of the different settings?
what happens when you open the project under say 24P and have clips with mixed frame rates?
and how should I set up a project that I wan to have some slow-mo, but not all?

Advice is appreciated.

OK I use Premiere so I can help you I think.

1. Premiere CS5 and above can handle h.264 without any transcoding. I usually have Premiere play back clips at 1/2 resolution and pause at full.

2. Let's say you have a group of clips thats 720p @30FPS, and another thats 1080p @60fps, when you open your suequence, go to the third tab over, and select to use your lowest resolution and lowest frame rate. (Same applies for rendering)

3. For smooth slo-motion I'm not very experience, but as far as I know, I've been able to get down to about 50% W/ 30fps before it gets choppy. Around 30% I start to get blur, but that is at 30fps so if you have shots at 60 youll be fine.

So what will happen if I open the project in 24P, and drag 60P clips into the timeline without conforming them?

Well I've never tested it so I can't tell you exactly what would happen, I would assume it would just remain in 60p until it was rendered out into an actual file at the end of your editing process.

But I do have some extra footy so I'll test it right now and post my results.
