Hood in late August

I am doing a week at MHSSC this summer.  I was planning on going to the final session to save some money but someone told me that it sucks that late in the season.  Is that true?  Should I drop the extra cash and go earlier or is it still good later?

go earlier. i went to timberline on august 31st last year (a good snow year) just for fun and there was no private park left, just public, which was in the high cascade lane. it had 7ish rail features and 3 jumps. even in early august you will still have private park with jumps and rails hikeable pubby. i dont think its worth it, especially since youre still paying around $60/day for lift tickets. so thats 300 of your camp price. plus that late in the season there will probably be hardly any campers in your session. best time to go is late june/early july. you get the intersection of best weather and amount of snow.

Yeah, late june has the best public park, the best weather and the most snow.

like evan said, mid-late june has the best public park. that being said, they moved public park up onto palmer mid august this summer and it was unreal, laps all day no taking your skis off and nobody there.

mid to late august public park was better than mhssc and nobody was in it anyways...

hey guys quick question? how are the lift lines in like late june/ early july? and will u be able to ski all the way down at those times? ive only been in early august and want to go earlier this year

It is lucky when public park is moved onto palmer late august, and if it is good. I suggest going to an earlier session, late june to early july is the best..look forward to seeing you there.

so how exactly does the public stuff work? just like regular ski area, but in summer? You dont have to enroll in the camps?

mid summer there is a small public park below the camps, but last summer when camp ended, all the camp lanes became public park, pipe and all.

pretty much. just buy a lift ticket or seasons pass and u can ski public park

not quite, spring though early july is a decent sized public park, then late july through late august there is a smaller, hikeable public park. Then once windells ended, and high cascade ended, high cascades park turned into public park. and mhssc still had a park below that through till the end of the summer.

alot of us hike features. but from june to early july you can lap it with the upper, palmer lift.
During that time, public is below mhssc's park so you can hit mhssc's park to public park. Last summer public park had a 7 jump line, our park has 3 jumps so you could lap a 10 jump line..
