good post,
i agree, it does come down to "what your ready to accept as a society" freedom does not come without consequence, yes, we have a very pro gun society, which means that we have a lot of guns. they are everywhere in the U.S. and easy to get a hold of legally and illegally.
i wont deny that our pro gun culture makes it easy to commit a gun related crime. but i will still argue that when more citizens have guns, it prevents crime, as its adding guns and giving power to the law abiding citizen, which means the people can have more power over criminals and the government.
i know the whole "more gun ownership prevents crime" thing has been argued to death so ill stop.
now lets pretend that more gun ownership equals more crime. obviously i dont agree with this but lets just pretend.
it still wouldnt change my opinion on our firearm laws. like i said above freedom does not come without consequence, i would be fine with the added risk, so long as i could have the freedom to protect myself and have power over criminals and the government. id rather fear the people than fear the government, which is what would happen if we went to the other extreme. and my opinion will always be that as long as we have a military with firearms, the people need to have the right to carry what a foot soldier can carry.
i really hate the argument that people use with gun, healthcare, taxes, etc.. arguments.. comparing the US to other countries. the US is not supposed to be like Canada, or like European countries. if you want that, move! i like the idea that an individual is responsible for his own well being and should have as much freedom as possible without taking away the right to live. unfortunately i cant say that the US has really become what it was meant to be. we have far too many social services, useless taxes, and absurd laws that take away sooo many of our rights. we are far from the free country that we should be.
anyway im getting off topic... so yeah..
