Summer 2010 21" iMac won't boot into OSX - help?

So after rebooting out of windows this morning, I went to take a shower, and came back to find my imac was frozen on the screen saver. Nothing I tried would wake it up, so I restarted the machine. After doing this, i was greeted with the typical apple logo and little scrolling circle, and so it stayed like that. Restarted the imac again, same thing, I even let it sit there for 10-15 min to see if it would boot. I'm able to boot into windows 7 perfectly fine, its just osx that is having the issue. I am currently without a snow leopard disk, so i can't boot to that. Help?

ive had the same problem with my MBP (10.5.8)
i deleted a resource file... but same problem
just re install the OSX and ull be all good. you probs just lost some files somewhere.
you wont (shouldnt...) lose any data.

try this.... Reboot holding down the Apple and "s" key to reboot in single user mode. Once a bunch of text loads, type fsck -fy Now press return. A ton of stuff shows up and it repairs what it can. It says to type reboot and it should reboot. Doesn't always so you may need to do a hard restart again.... then just be patient with the blue screen. It should locate the harddrive, just might take longer the first time. Then try shutting down and restarting like usual.

when my computer did this, i eventually got it to start, only to discover that the hard drive was on its way out. once you get it fixed, id run system tools asap

pretty much what re installing the OS does... took a while to initally start up.
and awks time in the apple store (i didnt have the install discs) with a desktop bg like this

i would love to, how ever i live 2.5 hours from the nearest apple store. So unless i can get this figured out online/over the phone, looks like i'll be taking road trip

did you follow my instructions? If your harddrive can not be found after this, you are pretty much dealing with a corrupted hard drive and may need to have it reformatted.

So seriously, do what I said.. if that doesn't work you can try booting off the os disk... but not very likely if my instructions didn't work... then its apple store time and potentially new hard drive time.

nothing happened after typing in fsck -fy

and as i clearly stated in the OP, i do not have a recovery disk/SL disc present, or else i would have had this issue fixed hours ago
